Boys Games

Faith Christian 64, Wellborn 60: Seth Cravens’ layup broke a 59-all tie and Malcolm Carlisle hit three free throws in the final eight seconds, including two with four seconds left to cap the Lions’ comeback and seal the victory. Carlisle finished with 31 points, including 5 of 8 from the line in the fourth quarter.

“Free throws have been killing us,” Faith coach Justin Kisor said. “They weren’t good tonight … until we needed them.”

Wellborn led most of the game and was in position to score its first win of the season before the finish. Eric Johnson led the Panthers with 29 points, including five 3-pointers, and Ken Harris had 14, going 9 for 10 from the line. The pair were a combined 15 of 19 from the line, but missed two free throws between Carlisle’s three in the closing seconds.

Kam Goodwin scored seven points for the Panthers – all in the third quarter when they took a 46-43 lead – and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Piedmont 69, Pleasant Valley 48: Carl Myers went 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the second quarter when the Bulldogs took control and finished with 18 points. Myers was 9-for-9 from the line for the game and the Bulldogs were 22 of 29 for the game.

Myers also grabbed four rebounds and dealt three assists. Stanley had three rebounds, two assists and four steals. Delo Foster scored four points, but grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked six shots. Seventh-grader Alex Odam scored five points, grabbed five rebounds, had two assists and three steals.

Caden Turner and Dakota Herron each hit a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter as PV went toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs in the first quarter. Turner led the Raiders with 14 points.

Jacksonville 55, White Plains 44: Macey Carr scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds against his former team and DeAndre McCain scored all 13 of his points in the second half as the Golden Eagles rallied from a five-point halftime deficit.

Anniston 57, Munford 20: The Bulldogs came out hot and hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter and finished with 12 treys in the game. William Fairley made two of his three in that first quarter and Kwame Milton hit four in the game. James Haynes led Anniston with 17 points and also had three treys.

Oxford 85, Pell City 47: The Yellow Jackets placed five scorers in double figures and scored 30 points in the first quarter to dominate their visitors. Mont McClendon led Oxford with 17 points and six rebounds.

Talladega 69, Sylacauga 66: Fred Dickerson and Chaztin Tanner scored layups off back-to-back steals in the final minute to turn a one-point deficit into a three-point Talladega win.

Actually, the Tigers went from four up with two minutes left to four down, but Dickerson got the rally started when he fed Kobe Simmons for a basket-and-one to make it 66-65 with a minute to play. Dickerson’s seventh steal and basket put Talladega ahead, Sylacauga called time and then Tanner picked up his steal and score on the ensuing possession.

Oxford’s Makayla Kidd (5) moves up to get an angle on Pell City’s Victoria Winslett.

Girls Games

Piedmont 65, Pleasant Valley 59 (OT): Sydney Prater and Pinky Nation scored 21 points each and combined for 11 points in overtime. PV’s Lindsey Pritchett hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.

Jacksonville 53, White Plains 34: Kyra Williams erupted for 38 points and 11 steals. She scored 12 in the first quarter, let up in the second and then scored 26 in the second half. The Lady Golden Eagles scored 21 points off the 31 turnovers they created.

Cleburne County 55, Clay Central 27: Chelsea Parker scored 10 of her 15 points in the first quarter when the Lady Tigers opened a 14-2 lead.

Glencoe 40, Hokes Bluff 33: The Lady Jackets scored as many points from the free throw line as they did from the field and held Hokes Bluff to just two points in the second quarter to score their big victory.

Oxford’s Roc Taylor (5) goes hard to the basket between two Pell City defenders.
