GLENCOE – Silas Thompson hit three 3-pointers, T.J. Fairs made eight free throws and Piedmont recovered from a slow start Thursday night to take a 47-38 area victory from Glencoe.

The Bulldogs scored only two free throws in the first quarter and trailed 8-2, but behind back-to-back 3-pointers by Thompson erupted for 17 points in the second quarter and never trailed again. They were 9-for-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter – with Fairs hitting five – to keep the Yellow Jackets at bay.

“We were able to put some pressure on them in the second quarter to produce some points,” Bulldogs assistant coach Matt Glover said. “We concentrated more on defense in the second to help us score because we were struggling to score with our offensive sets in the first. Silas came off the bench to hit those two big 3s to get us back in rhythm.”

Thompson finished with 15 points. Fair had 13. Cam Harris led Glencoe with 11 points.

Talladega 87, Lincoln 58: The Tigers were hot from the start and wound up with three 20-point scorers to claim their first area win of the season.

Fred Dickerson (24), Chaztin Tanner (22) and Ashton Duncan (20) all went for 20 in the game. Dickerson hit all four of his 3-pointers in the first quarter. Tanner also hit four in the game. The Tigers made 12 treys as a team.

Dickerson also had 13 points and six rebounds. Duncan had nine rebounds and four assists. Tyrese Scales also grabbed nine rebounds.

Javian Surles had another big night for Lincoln, scoring 25 points. He had 17 in the first half.

Sydney Prater scored eight in the first quarter for Piedmont, but was held scoreless until the fourth and finished with 15 points. Kayley Kirk had 10 points.
