All top 6 county seeds play each other in regular-season matches – No. 1 PV, No. 4 Oxford, No. 6 Faith come out the winners

JACKSONVILLE – The Calhoun County Volleyball Tournament doesn’t start until Saturday, but the battle Oxford and Jacksonville waged Tuesday night was as intense as any of the tournament finals they’ve played over the years.
It was just a regular-season matchup between the 3 and 4 seeds in the upcoming tournament, but it wasn’t played that way. Oxford, the No. 4 seed, played like a team with something to prove and beat the higher-seeded Golden Eagles in five sets, winning the fifth 15-11.
You could say it was Showdown Tuesday in county volleyball as all six of the top seeds in the upcoming tournament played each other.
In the other two marquee matchups of the night, top-seeded Pleasant Valley beat No. 2 Alexandria – for the second time this season – 3-1; and No. 6 Faith Christian beat No. 5 Saks – for the third time this season – 3-2, winning the fifth 16-14.
Oxford beat Jacksonville 19-25, 25-18, 25-20, 24-26, 15-11. PV beat Alexandria 25-16, 19-25, 25-15, 25-23. Faith beat Saks 25-16, 13-25, 25-23, 22-25, 16-14.
Jacksonville scored eight of the last nine points and staved off five match points in the fourth set to extend its match with Oxford. All three of Faith’s victories over Saks this season have gone to the tiebreaker set.
The fun for the top seeds doesn’t stop here. Pleasant Valley hosts Jacksonville Thursday night.
