This was Miajah Bullock’s year and she made the most of it.

Bullock was the recognized leader of this year’s Anniston girls basketball team, and other people recognized it, too.

The senior guard joined the ranks of the Lady Bulldogs’ greats as she was named to the first team Class 4A All-State Team as picked by the state’s sportswriters.

“It was basically her year,” Anniston coach Eddie Bullock said. “She had to take on a different role each year she’s played. Raven (Cooley) was there last year and after she left Miajah had to step up. She played well. She’s one of the best all-around players that I’ve coached.”

Miajah is one of three Calhoun County players on the All-State teams. Wellborn’s Vanessa Carter was a second team pick in Class 3A and Jacksonville’s Kyra Williams was a third team pick in Class 4A.

From around the area, Spring Garden’s Tiyonna Rogers was a first-team pick in Class 1A and teammate Savannah Dempsey was a second-team pick; Talladega’s tandem of Camille Buckhanon and Gabby Johnson were second team and honorable mention picks in Class 5A and Lincoln’s Amaz Carmichael was a third-team pick in Class 5A.

Here are the complete girls teams. The boys teams will be released Saturday night. The finalists for players of the year in each classification in the run-up to Mr. and Miss Basketball are expected to be announced next week.

Wellborn’s Vanessa Carter was a second-team pick in Class 3A.
