Joi Watts couldn’t have planned the way Senior Night turned out any better.

All three of the White Plains coach’s upperclassmen scored in double figures and made all of the team’s 3-pointers as the Lady Wildcats crushed Faith Christian 66-32 Friday night.

The Lady Wildcats still have games to play, but their road in the post-season leads them away from the friendly confines of the Coach Richard Madden Court. So, for Hannah Barno, Grey Young and Shelby Wood this was the last time they would play on this floor.

And they made the most of it. Barno had 10 points (and three 3-pointers). Young had 13 points (and three treys). Wood had a team-high 16 (with one 3-ball). The Lady Wildcats are undefeated this season when they get three players scoring in double figures.

“That was awesome, a great thing to go out on,” Young said.

The game was close early. Sydney Johnson scored the Lady Lions’ first eight points and staked them to an 8-6 lead. At that point White Plains embarked on a 20-2 run that made for a much more enjoyable night for the seniors. — Al Muskewitz

Fort Payne 59, Oxford 49

OXFORD – Fort Payne’s Nykeia McElrath scored 25 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to lift the Wildcats (21-7) to a come-from-behind victory.

Oxford (5-18) has played a murderous schedule in the last couple of weeks, facing one highly ranked team after another in Southside-Gadsden, Pell City, Talladega, Cherokee County and, now, Fort Payne.

Nine of the Lady Jackets’ last 11 games have come against teams that have been ranked during the season. The team of mostly juniors is starting to put things together and almost culminated it with a Friday night upset.

Both teams came out on fire in the opening quarter. Oxford’s Anna Bolton scored the first five points to put the Jackets up 5-0.

The three-guard tandem of Bolton, Tremeria Britt and Makayla Kidd gave the Wildcats fits on both ends of the floor in the first half as the teams battled to a 29-29 halftime tie. Britt had 14 of her 16 points in the half and Bolton had seven.

The Wildcats raced out to a 39-32 lead in the third quarter and appeared to be pulling away, but the Lady Jackets came back and with six different players scoring buckets grabbed a 45-42 lead with four minutes left in the game.

Wellborn 51, Saks 41

Vanessa Carter scored 30 points to lead Wellborn to victory in its final regular-season game. She started off slow, then erupted for 13 points in the second quarter as the Lady Panthers outscored their hosts 19-5 to to take a 27-16 halftime lead. She capped her night with three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Miracle Dennard led Saks to its early lead with nine in the first quarter. She had nine more as the Lady Wildcats tried to rally in the third quarter and finished the game with 22 points.

Jacksonville 66, Weaver 46

JACKSONVILLE – Aniyah Robinson led three double-figure scorers with 23 points and Kyra Williams filled the box score with numbers to lead the Lady Golden Eagles. Williams scored 17 points, but she also grabbed seven rebounds, had five assists and made nine steals. Essence Hutchinson was Jacksonville’s other scorer in double figures, with 11.

Robinson (10-of-20), Williams and Hutchinson were a combined 21 for 38 from the field as the Lady Golden Eagles shot 56 percent for the game. They also scored 22 points off the 18 turnovers they created.

Sand Rock 53, Pleasant Valley 49

JACKSONVILLE – Atleigh Brannon helped Pleasant Valley open an early lead with 10 of her team-high 23 points, but the Lady Raiders’ undoing the rest of the game was a lack of free throw shooting. PV was just 3-of-17 from the foul line, 1-of-6 in the second half

Brannon and Mikala Simpson (14) led the PV offense, but they were outscored by Sand Rock’s two big scorers – Kirby Deboard (24) and Savannah Blackwell (16) – by three. Deboard did her damage in the first half scoring 20 points (and was 0-for-9 from the line in the second half) while Blackwell scored 14 in the second.

Anniston 48, Sylacauga 42

SYLACAUGA – Miajah Bullock posted a double-double and the Lady Bulldogs’ defense shut down the Aggies’ best player. Bullock had 26 poins and 10 rebounds. Backcourt mate Keandra Finley had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. The fourth-ranked Lady Bulldogs (20-5) completed this final-week gauntlet of ranked teams to prepare them for postseason play 2-1.

Lincoln 46, Alexandria 44

LINCOLN – Amaz Carmichael’s basket with 19 seconds left put Lincoln up by two and the Lady Bears had to wait to claim victory until Alexandria’s final-second shot to tie fell short. The Lady Cubs had led by double digits most of the game.
