LINEVILLE – Camerun Peoples went over 1,500 yards rushing for the season with 220 yards and two touchdowns and Davyn Flenord intercepted two more passes as sixth-ranked Central-Clay County wrapped up a perfect region schedule with a 28-12 Thursday night victory over Talladega.

It’s Central’s first undefeated region season since 2012, its first year as a consolidated school.

The Volunteers (8-1, 6-0) had two big-play touchdowns to open the scoring and kept the Tigers (2-7, 1-5) at bay to win their fifth in a row.

Peoples scored on a 57-yard run and Flenord scored on a 62-yard pass from Ben Street to give them a 14-0 early in the third quarter. Peoples also scored on a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Peoples had 28 carries in the game. His 220 yards gave him 1,518 for the season. He has rushed for 18 touchdowns.

Flenord caught four passes from his own quarterback for 118 yards and intercepted two by Talladega’s. He now has seven receptions (for 551 yards and five touchdowns) and seven interceptions for the season.

Despite the interceptions, Tigers’ quarterback Ashton Duncan threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns on 15-of-25 passing.

The Volunteers, the Class 5A Region 4 champs, wrap up their regular season next week against current 4A No. 7 Handley.
