OXFORD – Taylor Davenport, Haley Lyner and Bailey Clark all homered and Taylor Ellison and Rylee Waldrep combined on a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Oxford celebrated softball senior night with an 11-0 rout of Clay-Chalkville Tuesday.

The Lady Jackets pounded 11 hits in the game. In addition to the three homers, they also had five doubles. Amber Dempsey went 3-for-3 with two doubles, while Lyner, Clark and Grace Mitchell had two hits apiece.

Clark’s two-run homer gave the Lady Jackets a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Lyner homered in the fourth and Davenport’s three-run homer ended the game in the fifth inning.

Taylor Ellison and North-South All-Star Rylee Waldrep held the Lady Cougars to a third-inning single.

The Lady Jackets return to action Thursday night in a doubleheader with Southside-Gadsden at Choccolocco Park that could give Oxford claim to the No. 1 team in Class 6A going into postseason play. They were No. 3 in the final formal poll behind Southside and area foe Chelsea.
