Oxford is joined by Alexandria, PV in final prep softball poll, play No. 1 team in 6A Thursday at Choccolocco Park

Regardless of the outcome of Thursday’s epic regular-season single game with top-ranked Southside, Oxford will go into post-season play as the third-ranked softball team in Class 6A.
Still, if the Lady Jackets win the 5 p.m. game Choccolocco Park they would have every reason to lay claim to the mythical No. 1.
Consider: If they win the game, they will have beaten Southside late in the season and, last weekend, won Southside‘s tournament (and didn’t play the hosts in the final). Additionally, Southside lost to the No. 2 team in 5A earlier in the week that Oxford beat in that tournament final.
But it’s just a poll, basically the opinion of a few, and its results have raised questions in some classifications throughout the season. The true No. 1 ultimately will be decided in Montgomery – if the Lady Jackets can get there again.
That will be a challenge in itself. Oxford’s area tournament should be one of the most hotly contested in the state. The three teams are ranked 2 (Chelsea), 3 (Oxford) and 4 (Pell City) in the final 6A poll.
By the way, Alexandria remains No. 5 in Class 5A and Pleasant Valley is No. 10 in 3A. Cleburne County is No. 4 in 4A and Spring Garden is No. 2 in 1A.
