Spring Garden girls, Cherokee County boys bring home county titles

CENTRE — Regardless of the pre-tournament seedings, Spring Garden girls coach Ricky Austin has often said the best team always rises to the top in the Cherokee County Tournament.
Austin’s sixth-ranked Class 1A Lady Panthers and 4A No. 2 Cherokee County won the team titles Saturday night.
Spring Garden defeated 3A No. 5 Sand Rock 45-36 for the girls crown. Cherokee County used balanced scoring and tough defense to swamp Cedar Bluff 62-19 for the boys crown.
Thirteen players scored for the Warriors in the boys game. Justin McKnight led the Warriors with 11 points.
