Tallassee leads tight Taylor race

Top four teams separated by 10 points going into today’s final round; defending champion Weaver second

WEAVER — Weaver wrestling coach Andy Fulmer anticipated a potentially tight race in the Gene Taylor Memorial Classic, and the team scores after Friday’s opening night of competition proved him right.

Tallassee leads after the first day with 58 points, but its only four points ahead of second-place Weaver. In fact, only 10 points separate the top four teams.

Twenty-nine wrestlers scored two pins Friday, with the two fastest being delivered by Ranburne’s Bailey Henry at 113 (0:37) and Weaver’s Nick Souder at 120 (0:59).
