Oxford wins Husky Challenge, while Saks finishes second at Geraldine; play each other Monday night

Husky Challenge

TRUSSVILLE – Oxford won the championship, beating Springville in the title game 25-15, 25-13.

The Lady Jackets went 5-1 in the tournament. They also defeated Mortimer Jordan (25-19, 27-25), Leeds (25-17, 25-19), Benjamin Russell (25-11, 25-14) and Briarwood (25-21, 25-21). The loss came to Clay Chalkville (25-18, 25-23).

Here are their statistical highlights for the weekend:

Laura Davenport: 18 kills, 23 digs, 7 aces.
Karagan Timmons: 60 digs.
Nyia Archie: 34 kills, 6 aces.
Winter Taylor: 30 kills, 4 aces.
Sara Connell: 14 kills, 21 digs.
Taylor Ellison: 22 kills, 35 kills, 6 aces.

The Lady Jackets, the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Calhoun County Tournament, are 24-10 and host Saks and Piedmont on Monday.

Geraldine Tournament

GERALDINE – The Saks volleyball team had a little bit of success against the fourth-ranked team in Class 6A, but fell to Arab 25-19, 28-30, 15-6 in the title match of Geraldine’s tournament.

Their win in the middle set was the first set undefeated Arab had lost all season, Saks coach Randy Law said.

The Lady Wildcats (28-4) beat DAR (25-19, 25-14), Fyffe (25-9, 25-20), Geraldine (25-10, 23-25, 15-9) and Plainview (25-12, 25-7).

Here are their weekend statistical highlights:

Tayler Teague: 5 aces, 26 kills, 8 blocks, 16 digs.
Baylee Snider: 19 kills.
Jaelyn Wilson: 68 assists.
Jordan Briskey: 7 aces, 38 kills, 5 blocks, 12 digs.
Madison Gable: 35 digs.
