Youth serves Oxford well, Veasley accounts for 5 J’ville TDs, Cleburne Co. handles White Plains, Glencoe wins another tight one

By East Alabama Sports Today

OXFORD – If coach Ryan Herring wants a good look at the future of his Oxford football program, all he has to do is watch the tape of Friday night’s victory over Chilton County.

The future appears to be in good hands after the Yellow Jackets evened their record with a dominating 42-7 win in which all of their points were scored by underclassmen.

Sophomore quarterback Brody Syer threw three touchdown passes, two of them to junior Jakolby McClendon.

They broke open a close game with four touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Syer threw touchdown passes to Hareem Averette and McClendon. Sophomores Diavae Calhoun and Rodarius Dorman scored the Jackets’ other touchdowns.

Defensively, Kenney Britt had 12 tackles, while Desmond Cooley had five tackles and two interceptions.

The Jackets played without senior running back Trey Franks, whose scratch was a “coaches’ decision.” Still, even without one of their top weapons, they managed to produce 438 yards of offense.
