HEFLIN – The court education of the Saks girls basketball team continued Tuesday night.

The young Lady Wildcats took another step in learning to play at the pace coach Michelle Lively would like, running out to a 57-39 area victory over Cleburne County.

“It’s real important for us to play this kind of team,” Lively said. “We’ve got to learn how to play fast and that’s what we’re good at. We’re getting comfortable playing fast.

“We’ve been fast, but we’re so young we’re not smart being fast. This is a big win because we’re still trying to learn how to win.”

Maiya Northard led Saks with 13 points, while Bre Browning had nine and Miracle Dennard eight. The Lady Wildcats opened a 14-6 lead in the first quarter and pulled away in the second.

“We’re still trying to figure it out,” Lively said. “We pick and choose where we want to play. We come out on fire and doing stuff we’re supposed to do, then kind of let off the gas a little bit; we don’t know how to keep going.”

Cleburne County’s Alisa Norton led all scorers with 16 points.
