ASWA Poll

Most of the region playoff races in football have been decided, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any interesting games in this final week of the regular season.

Perhaps the most intriguing in this area – as it relates to this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association poll at least – features two top-five teams in separate classifications.

Cleburne County, No. 5 in Class 4A, visits Glencoe, No. 3 in Class 3A Thursday night.

Statewide, there’s a battle between unanimous No. 1s in Mobile, where St. Paul’s (5A) plays UMS-Wright (4A). The Saints hold an 18-17 edge in the series that started in 1978. It’ll be the first time they’ve as both ranked No. 1.

After its victory over Jacksonville last week, Saks moved up to No. 7 in Class 4A, while Jacksonville fell in at No. 10.

Piedmont is No. 7 in Class 3A. Donoho is Calhoun County’s highest-rated team at No. 4 in Class 1A.
