Intriguing trimatch sees Oxford fight off challenges from Pleasant Valley, Oxford, and young White Plains shows fight enough to earn a Friday morning off.

OXFORD — Less than three weeks from the Calhoun County volleyball seeding meeting, Thursday’s trimatch at Oxford served up three teams to watch.

Defending county champion Oxford (17-5) fought off challenges from three-time defending Class 2A state champion Pleasant Valley (10-10) and up-and-comer White Plains (13-12).

Young White Plains came back from a first-set thud to knock off Pleasant Valley then pushed Oxford to a dramatic third set.

“There’s a lot of good volleyball in Calhoun County,” Oxford coach Wendy McKibbin said.
