BIRMINGHAM — Jacob and Lewis LeCroy won a two-hole playoff to win the ninth Alabama State Parent-Child Championship at Highland Park Golf Course on Tuesday.

The LeCroys shot a 7-under-par 63 to finish regulation play tied with Charles and Hunter Hawkins. Alan and Andrew Coshatt finished third at 5 under.

The LeCroys prevailed in a field of 49 teams. Their round included an eagle on No. 14 and seven birdies.

Won previously by Ott and Carson Chandler, the state father-son featured five flights playing 18 holes of modified alternate shot where both team members played from their designated tee, selected a ball and played alternate shot until the ball was holed.

The LeCroys played a practice round Sunday then won it in their first attempt.
“It was a pretty tough field,” Lewis LeCroy said.

Jacob LeCroy called his 22-yard, up-hill chip-in for eagle on the par-4 No. 14 hole “nasty” and “the best shot I’ve hit in a long time.”

“It was a low, spinning, and hit it four times before it ever grabbed up,” he said. “It grabbed and sling-shot right, right into the hole. … It literally spun backwards to go in.”

He called the playoff “incredible.” The LeCroy and Hawkins teams played No. 18 twice.

Lewis’ tee shot played down the middle on the first attempt, and Jacob’s approach shot from 73 Yards nearly holed in before settling a few inches out. Lewis tapped in the birdie putt.

Jacob drove the green on the second attempt, and Lewis’ eagle putt from 20 feet stopped  two feet from the hole. Jacob clinched it with the birdie putt.

“It’s something we’ll always remember,” Lewis LeCroy said. “We hit the ball really good and had some great looks at stuff. We had four eagle putts today.

“He was more fired up than I was. He was pumped. He said, ‘This is the most excited I’ve got in a while.”
