GADSDEN — Dane Moore was willing to sacrifice golfing glory to watch his kids’ sports glories this weekend, and he wound up with both.
Moore shot 1-under-par 70 in Sunday’s final round of the Gadsden Country Club Invitational, and his four-shot lead became a 13-shot victory over defending champion Ken Goforth and Corey Ray.

Moore’s first victory in the Invitational, the 2026 Calhoun County Golf Tour’s third points event, gives him 300 points on the season.
It also adds to a big family sports weekend that saw 8-year-old daughter Julia score both goals in a 2-1 victory over a rival that had beaten her Pink Unicorns rec team twice this season. Moore asked and was granted a later tee time for Saturday’s round so that he could attend Julia’s soccer match.
He was willing to withdraw, if tournament organizers couldn’t accommodate this later tee time. First-round leaders usually go off first in Saturday’s second round, but Moore played in Saturday’s last group.
He completed the best of both worlds Sunday by claiming the GCC Invitational trophy for the first time, adding it to his two club championships.
‘It was a good weekend,” he said.
His good weekend culminated in a stress-free Sunday.
Moore came into Sunday’s final round with a four-shot lead after shooting 7-under 64 on Saturday, breaking a first-round deadlock with Goforth. Moore and Flight 2 winner Eli Edge shot Sunday’s only under-par rounds among the championship flights at 70 apiece.
Goforth, having to push it to gain ground, shot 79.
Brennan Clay and Chase Kennedy, also playing in the final group, shot 73 and 76, respectively.
Moore said he began the day “nervey” and bogeyed Nos. `1 and 5 but settled down for birdies on Nos. 8 and 9 to draw even at the turn. He rallied from a bogey on 11 to eagle the par-5 12th hole then parred home.
“I played good all weekend,” Moore said. “Today was not quite as good or steady, at least starting off, but I didn’t get myself in any big trouble, and nobody really put a ton of pressure on me.
“Most of it was, middle of the greens. If you make a 20-footer, great. If not, just tap it in.”
