White Plains overcomes scare to outlast Cherokee County for area title. Pleasant Valley, Ohatchee punch tickets to regional. Randolph County takes area title. Weaver, Lincoln bound for regional as runners up.

ALEXANDRIA — Carliegh-Anne Green went 4-for-5 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs, and White Plains overcame an injury to pitcher Carli Fritts to outlast Cherokee County 16-13 in the “if” game of Saturday’s Class 4A, Area 12 finals.

White Plains (28-21) claimed the area title, and both teams punched their tickets to the East Central Regional at Albertville.

Fritts took Sofie Dawson’s comebacker to the left side of facemask in the fourth inning and left the action. She participated in the Wildcats’ celebratory picture after the game.

White Plains coach Anna Burgess said Fritts is OK, and Fritts will have more than a week before regional play starts. She finished 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run, and she exited the circle with a 13-4 lead.

Seventh-grader Kinsleigh Gross finished the game in the circle.

Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Piper Thompson went 1-for-5 with four runs, and Emma Tidwell went 1-for-2 with three runs. Rylee Smith went 1-for-4 with three runs.

White Plains won two of three games against Cherokee County in the tournament, including a 5-4 victory on Tidwell’s walk-off home run in the first round.  

Cherokee County won the first game of the finals 7-6 despite Adams’ home run, three RBIs and three runs. Jaylie Holt went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

CHEROKEE COUNTY RUNNER UP: The Warriors (27-18) opened Saturday’s play by eliminating top seed and host Alexandria 5-4 split two games with White Plains in the finals, winning 7-6 before falling 16-13.

Cherokee County and White Plains clinched spots in the East Central Regional.

Emma Hill went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run against Alexandria. She also pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, two earned runs with six strikeouts and one walk.

Isabella Patterson went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs, and Sydni Frost had a single and an RBI. 

Alexandria’s Charlee Parris hit a solo home run in her final high school at bat, in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Baylee Elston went 2-for-3 with a solo home run.

Alexandria finished 34-14.

In Cherokee County’s victory over White Plains, Sofie Dawson had a double and three RBIs. Kaylee Lewis went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Isabella Patterson had a double, a run and an RBI, and Anna Morris went 2-for-3 with a run.

In the loss to White Plains, Patterson went 4-for-5 with a home run, a double, three runs and three RBIs. Emma Eberhart went 4-for-5 with a triple, a double, four runs and an RBI.

Lewis went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Hill had a single and two RBIs. Brooklynn Bruce had a double and two runs.

Dawson went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Class 2A, Area 13

PLEASANT PUNCHES TICKET: The top seeded Raiders (22-24) beat Gaston 14-2 and Sand Rock 14-10 to reach Monday’s 5 p.m. area final against the Sand Rock-Cedar Bluff survivor.

Pleasant Valley also clinched a spot in the East Central Regional.

Alexa Cranmer went 2-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs against Gaston. Hanna Henry had a double and two RBIs, and Charlee Grogan singled with two RBIs.

Lilly Robinson went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Janette Turner went 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Ellie Patterson went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Abby Evans went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Ella Kate Roper pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts. 

Cailey Almaroad went 3-for-4 with a home run, three runs and two RBIs against Sand Rock, and Patterson went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Cranmer went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs, and Robinson went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run.

Elise Wheeler went 2-for-4 with a run. 

Class 3A, Area 11

OHATCHEE PUNCHES TICKET: The Indians (29-11) beat Westbrook Christian 14-2 to reach the winners’ bracket final then beat Glencoe 4-0 to reach the area final and clinch a berth in the East Central Regional in Albertville.

Ohatchee will play the Piedmont-Glencoe survivor in Monday’s area final.

Reese Steward went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs against Westbrook Christian. Mollee Barnes went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Blaze Steward went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Jordyn Faulkner went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Alanah Fitch went 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Makayla Brackett pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts. 

Annie Cox pitched a three-hitter with two strikeouts against Glencoe, and Gracie Reed went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Maddie Stone went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

GLENCOE SPLITS: The Yellow Jackets (15-18) beat Piedmont 3-2 before falling to Ohatchee 4-0.

Glencoe will play Piedmont in Monday’s elimination game, with the winner clinching a spot in Monday’s area final and the East Central Regional.

Anna Alred drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning against Piedmont. Katy Talbot went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Evelyn Nowak went 1-for-3 with a double.

Kynsley Freeman pitched a three-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Caitlin Romano and Riley Brothers each had a double against Ohatchee.

PIEDMONT SPLITS: The Bulldogs (15-19-2) fell to Glencoe 3-2 then eliminated Westbrook Christian 7-6.

Piedmont will play Glencoe in Monday’s elimination game, with the winner clinching a spot in Monday’s area final and the East Central Regional.

Amarae Champion went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI against Glencoe on Saturday. Cadence Buttram had a single and a run.

Nakiya Bothwell went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs against Westbrook Christian. Champion had a double, a run and an RBI, and Brindlee Masters had an RBI. Robyn Payne went 2-for-3 with two runs.

Class 3A, Area 9

RANDOLPH COUNTY WINS: The Tigers (21-7) beat Weaver twice Saturday, 7-2 and 11-8, to clinch the area title. Both teams advance to the East Central Regional next week in Albertville.

Khloe Yates went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run in Saturday’s first game, and Hannah Parmer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Kinsley Weathers went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI.

Abi Waters went 2-for-2, and Gracie Huckeba went 11-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Waters pitched a complete game, allowing six hits with four strikeouts.

Yates went 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs in the area final, and Weathers went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Huckeba went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs and an RBI, and Bryer Thompson went 2-for-2 with four runs.

Waters got the win in relief, allowing three hits, no walks and no earned runs with one strikeout in three innings.

WEAVER RUNNER UP: The Bearcats (15-17) lost to Randolph County 7-2, beat Wellborn 15-5 in an elimination game, then fell to Randolph County 11-8 in the area final.

Randolph County and Weaver advanced to next week’s East Central Regional in Albertville.

Promise McLean had a single and two RBIs in the first game against Randolph County. Heaven Bishop went 2-for-3 with a double, and Caitlin Edmondson had a double and a run.

Ashlyn Coleman went 4-for-5 with two doubles, four runs and two RBIs against Wellborn. Rayleigh Partner went 2-for-4 with two doubles, four runs and two RBIs.

Bishop went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Charli Reaves went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Edmondson went 3-for-3 with two runs.

Partner got the win, allowing six hits, no walks and no earned runs with five strikeouts.

Partner went 4-for-4 with a double and a run in the area final. Maddie Stanford went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Reaves went 2-for-4.

Edmondson had a single, a run and an RBI, and Bishop had a double and an RBI.

Class 5A, Area 11

LINCOLN RUNNER UP: The Golden Bears staved off elimination with a 13-12 victory over Jacksonville then fell to St. Clair County 16-6 in the area final.

Lincoln (23-18-1) advanced to next week’s East Central Regional in Albertville.

The Golden Bears scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to survive Jacksonville, winning when Chandler Stephens’ grounder triggered an error.

Cameron Pruitt and Aubrey Machen had advanced to third and second bases, respectively, ahead of the play,

Lincoln’s Kinsley Crow hit her second home run of the game, a three-run shot, earlier in the inning.

Jacksonville took a 12-9 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. The rally included Sadie Pate-Whitfield’s two-run home run, and Ana Strain hit an RBI double.

Crow finished 2-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs. Kalia Fowles went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and a run, and Machen went 1-for-2 with a homer, two RBIs and two runs.

Jacksonville’s Ava Snead went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Pate-Whitfield had two RBIs and two runs to go with her homer.

Chloe Lockett went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Jacksonville finished 10-18.
