Alexandria baseball clinches playoff berth, Munford’s Stephens passes 100 wins. JCA softball puts up 32 runs in doubleheader. In soccer, WP’s Garcia scores six goals, and Donoho gets 11th victory.

Going around the horn with Thursday’s area high school baseball and softball and over the pitch with soccer.

Baseball 

ALEXANDRIA 13-4, WHITE PLAINS 3-0: The Valley Cubs (18-9) clinched a playoff berth ahead of next week’s series with Cherokee County to determine the area champion.

Emmett Waldrep and Cam Johnson combined to pitch a shutout in the first game. Waldrep allowed three hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings, and Johnson pitched two perfect innings of relief with two strikeouts.

Garrett Haynes had a single and two RBIs, and Cole Wheeler had a double with an RBI and a run. Sawyer Coggins had a single with an RBI.

Coggins pitched a two-hitter with three strikeouts in the second game. He also went  3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Cooper Smith went 3-for-3 with a triple, two doubles and three runs, and Jeremiah Heathcock went 1-for-2 with a triple, the runs and two RBIs.  

Waldrep had a double, two RBIs and a run, and Wheeler went 2-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

Haynes went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI, and Knox Faulkner had a single and two RBIs.

CENTRAL-CLAY 2, SYLACAUGA 1: J.T. Wilkerson had a single and an RBI, and the Vols upped to 11-8. He also pitched a perfect inning of relief. Hudson Foster allowed two hits with seven strikeouts. 

CHEROKEE COUNTY 11, CLEBURNE COUNTY 4: Nate Black was 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs, and the Warriors won an area game while reaching 13-11 on the season. 

Case Hill went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, and Evan Hill went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Adam Griiffith pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, three walks and two earned runs with five strikeouts.

Cleburne County’s Brayden Maduro went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Parker Fields had a single and an RBI.

MOODY 2-7, JACKSONVILLE 0-4: Moody took the area series, and Jacksonville dropped to 12-15.

Luke Richardson pitched a solid outing in the first game, holding Moody to five hits, no walks and no earned runs with two strikeouts in six innings. He also had one of Jacksonville’s three hits.

Nick Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the second game. Sam Parker-Wagoner and Parker Moore each had a single and an RBI. Matthew Salmon went 2-for-2.

MUNFORD 9-12, HANDLEY 1-1: Munford’s Derek Stephens picked up his 100th and 101st wins, and Munford upped to 12-9 while clinching its fifth straight area title.

He’s 101-55.

Landon Gallahair had a perfect game through 20 outs in the first game. He finished with a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts. 

He also went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and an RBI. Braydon Nichols went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and B.J. Anderson went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Nichols allowed five hits with 11 strikeouts in the second game. He also went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Braylon Stewart was 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, and D.J. Hailes had a single and two RBIs. Gallahair went 2-for-3 with three runs.

Handley’s Alex Busbin went 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

OXFORD 11-12, SHADES VALLEY 1-2: Oxford finished off an area sweep and reached 20-10 on the season.

Chase Williams allowed two hits with seven strikeouts in four innings in the first game, and Zach Richardson pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.

Ayden Noyola went 2-for-2 with three RBIs, and Canaan Whitman went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Marcus Lawler went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Bryson Bradford had a single, a run and an RBI.

Charlie Maniscalco got the win in the second game, allowing two hits, two earned runs and three walks and a strikeout in three innings.

Rocco Maniscalco went 3-for-3 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs. Lawler went 2-for-3 with two runs, and Bradford went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

SPRING GARDEN 17, JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 0: Clayton Sadler pitched a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts, and Spring Garden (12-10) won an area game. He also went 2-for-4 with an RBI. 

Joel Hunter went 3-for-4 with a triple, three runs and an RBI. Zack Scogin went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, and Eli Bates went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. Brady Ruark went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Zane Edwards and Ben Baker each had a double, a run and an RBI. Dawson Ellzy had a triple, two runs and an RBI.

WEAVER 3-4, WELLBORN 7-3: Tracen Jones’s walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning in the third game gave Weaver a split of Thursday’s doubleheader and victory in the area series. 

He finished 1-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and a run. 

Connor Hyatt went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Landon Free pitched a complete game, allowing four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

Wellborn’s Ashton Woodard had a double and two RBIs, and J.D. Talley went 2-for-4 with a run. Jackson Clark had a single and two runs.

Wellborn’s Tanner Ingram went 1-for-1 with three RBIs and a run in the first game, and Woodard went 4-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI. 

Dalton Dillard and Jace Bradley each had a single and an RBI.

Clark pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts. 

Jones had a double and two RBIs.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 9, HOKES BLUFF 3: Brady Carden went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Westbrook Christian improved to 16-7 with an area win.

Bo Kilgo went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Brady Ryan went 3-for-4 with a double. Brodie Johnson and Easton Daniel each went 2-for-5 with two runs, and Daniel had an RBI.

Wil Chadwick had two RBIs, and Jacob Maples had a single and an RBI.

Johnson pitched a complete game, allowing five hits with six strikeouts. 

Hokes Bluff’s Micah Brasher had a double and two RBIs, and Bryce Whitaker went 2-for-3 with a run.

Softball

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 21-11, SPRING GARDEN 2-4: JCA swept an area doubleheader to reach 11-2 on the season.

Addy Lee went 2-for-2 with two home runs, six RBIs and three runs in the first game, and Cali Sexton had a double and three RBIs. 

Bryleigh Reid went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Carlie Chesson went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Sophie Williams went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three runs and one RBI.

Audrina Williams allowed four hits and one walk with four strikeouts in three innings for the win.

Lee’s hot hitting continued in the second game. She went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and a run. 

Mollie Mullinax swung the hottest bat, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs. Chesson had a single and two RBIs, and Sexton had a single, a run and an RBI.

Audrina Williams made it two wins on the day, allowing six hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.

MUNFORD 12, HANDLEY 2: Chloe Pickette hit a solo home run, and Munford upped to 23-6 while picking up an area win.

Madison Arnold went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Addyson Britt went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. B Durham went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. 

Brooklyn Pressley had a single, two RBIs and a run, and Ashtyn Bishop had a double and a run.

Pressley spread out six hits with six strikeouts in six innings.

Handley’s Breydan Watkins hit a solo home run. Lily Sledge went 2-for-2 with a double, and Anna Kate Cole had a double and a run.

RANBURNE 7, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: Addison Gibbs pitched a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts, and Ranburne upped to 10-11. She also went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Shaylie Reaves went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run, and Rylie Duke went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Kasen Hallman went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Kamryn Jnkins went 2-for-3.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 18, SAKS 0: Abi Waters pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts, and the Tigers reached 14-5.

Kyndahl Huckeba went 3-for-4 with a double, five RBIs and two runs, and Gracie Huckeba went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs. 

Lizzie Milam went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, and Hannah Parmer went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Lydia Parmer went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI. 

Bryer Thompson had a single and two runs, and Caroline Waters had a single, a run and an RBI.

Soccer

WHITE PLAINS GIRLS 8, TALLADEGA 4: Layla Garcia amassed six goals and two assists. Ximena Sanchez added a goal and an assist, Kay Martinez scored a goal.

DONOHO 8, CHILDERSBURG 0: Isata Sesay scored three goals, and Brooke Vandiber scored two, and Donoho upped to 11-3. Chloe Melton, Katelyn McMorris and Anna Kate Lindell scored one apiece. Hania Rehman had three assists, and Sophia Sanders had two. Sesay and Vandiber had one apiece.
