Tennis
RED WILDER INVITATIONAL: The annual de facto Calhoun County tournament for tennis got underway Friday with doubles competition at Anniston Country Club.
Donoho’s girls swept three doubles matches against Jacksonville, with No. 1 Avery Barnett-Natalie Rodgers winning 10-0, No. 2 Claire Tollison-Elizabeth Downey winning 10-2 and No. 3 Bentlee Pahman-Harper Barnett winning 10-0. The Falcons also swept Oxford, with No. 1 Barnett-Rodgers winning 10-8, No. 2 Tollison-Downey winning 10-3 and No. 3 Pahman-Barnett winning 10-0.
Donoho’s boys won two of three against Oxford, with No. 1 Foster Payton-Ethan Crawford winning 10-5 and No. 2 Rishi Reddy-Aiden Thompson winning 10-0. Oxford’s No. 3 tandem Payton Butterworth/Cullen Noyola won 10-9.
Oxford’s girls swept Jacksonville, with No. 1 Claire Maniscalco/Charlie Lambert winning 10-0, No. 2 Autumn Furtick/Jocelyn Prince 10-5 and No. 3 Mayra Prince/Meia Mack winning 10-3.
Singles competition begins Saturday at 8 a.m.
Baseball
JACKSONVILLE 10, PIEDMONT 7: First-year Jacksonville coach Taylor Hayes got one against his alma mater Friday.
Luke Richardson and Nick Johnson drove in two runs apiece, and Jacksonville improved to 11-12. Richardson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and Johnson singled with two RBis.
Matthew Salmon went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and John Ducar went 3-for-3 with two doubles with a run and an RBI.
Javian Fomby had a single and three runs.
Cooper Haynes got the win, allowing six hits, six earned runs and five walks with four strikeouts in seven innings.
Piedmont’s Ethan Tidwell went 2-for-4 with a double and a run, and Alex Bass went 1-for-1 with three RBIs. Ben Dempsey had two RBIs.
CLEBURNE COUNTY 9, PLEASANT VALLEY 4: Matthew Wilson went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and the Tigers improved to 5-10.
Thompson went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Parker Fields went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.
Aiden Laminack got the win, allowing six hits, two earned runs and two walks with four strikeouts in seven innings.
Pleasant Valley’s Peyton Mann went 2-for-3 with two runs. Wesley Wheeler had a double, and Nic Acker had a single and an RBI.
RANBURNE 7, WELLBORN 1: James Ward went 4-for-4 with a run, and Drew Davenport went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs as the Bulldogs improved to 19-6-1.
Owen Henderson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Colton Johnson had an RBI.
Henderson got the win, allowing three hits, one walk and no earned runs with four strikeouts in five innings.
Wellborn’s Tanner Ingram had a double and an RBI, and Zach Pressley hit a triple.
SPRING GARDEN 5, WEAVER 2: Brady Ruark went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Hayes Guthrie went 2-for-4 with a run as the Panthers upped to 10-10.
Joel Hunter went 2-for-3 with a triple and a run. Clayton Sadler, Zane Edwards and Ben Baker each had a double and an RBI.
Sadler got the win, allowing three hits, two earned runs and four walks with eight strikeouts in five innings.
Weaver’s Tracen Jones went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Cam Gregory had an RBI.
WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 19, FIRST ASSEMBLY 3: Brady Carden went 4-for-6 with four RBIs and a run, and Westbrook upped to 13-7.
Brodie Johnson went 1-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run, Brody Blevins went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.
Wil Chadwick hit a solo home run, and Jacob Maples went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Luke Thompson had a double and an RBI.
Easton Skaggs got the win, allowing four hits, one walk and no earned runs and five strikeouts in four innings.
Softball
ALEXANDRIA WINS TWO: The Class 4A Valley Cubs took down two 7A teams Friday, beating Central-Phoenix City 7-3 and Spain Park 7-5 to reach 17-7.
Boo Boo Bright went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs against Central, and Cali Hess went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Baylee Echols went 2-for-3 with a run.
Khloe England got the win, allowing eight hits and five walks and one strikeout in six innings.
Charlee Parris went 1-for-2 with a triple, a run and an RBI against Spain Park. Bright, Hess and Elston each had a single and an RBI.
Reece Carr got the win, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
OHATCHEE WINS TWO: The Indians beat Southside 7-2 and Cleveland 11-0 to reach 17-5 on the season.
Jordyn Faulkner and Annie Cox combined to hold Southside to three hits in six innings. Each pitcher had two strikeouts.
Alanah Fitch hit two triples with two runs and an RBI. Cox had a triple, a run and an RBI, and Asia Keith had a double, a run and an RBI.
Cox pitched a no-hitter with seven strikeouts in five innings against Cleveland.
Reese Steward went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs, and Madison Mize 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and Blaze Steward went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Fitch had a single, two runs and an RBI.
GLENCOE SPLITS:The Yellow Jackets beat Valley Head 14-3 and lost to West End-Walnut Grove 2-1 to reach 7-9 on the season.
Riley Brothers went 2-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and a run against Valley Head, and Caitlin Romano went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and a run.
Kynsley Freeman went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two RBIs, and AndeeMae Skinner went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Zowie Morris went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Evelyn Nowak went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Freeman got the win, allowing two hits with no walks and three strikeouts in four innings. She also had a single and RBI against West End, and Skinner had a double and a run.
MUNFORD 11, JACKSONVILLE 3: Kastin Lathem went 2-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs, and the Lions reached 21-6 on the season.
Brooklyn Pressley went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs and two RBIs, and Ashtyn Bishop went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Madison Arnold went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, and Addyson Britt went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Arnold got the win, allowing four hits with 10 strikeouts in six innings.
Jacksonville’s Sadie Pate-Whitfield went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs, and Ana Strain went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.
