ANNISTON — Michael Easley spared Saks principal C.J. Boyd a phone call when the Wildcats’ head football coaching job came open in March, taking the initiative to call Boyd.

“Coach Easley reached out to me, and I knew without a shadow of a doubt that he was the right guy for our job,”: Boyd said.

The Calhoun County Board of Education approved Easley’s hiring in a unanimous vote at Thursday morning’s special-called meeting. He’ll take over for Shannon Felder, who was not retained after one year on the job.

Easley, 45, coached football and boys’ basketball at Munford before announcing his pending resignation Dec. 7. He guided the Lions’ football program to a 25-46 record and one playoff appearance in seven seasons, from 2019-25.

He spent 14 years as an assistant coach at Saks before becoming Munford’s head coach.
