ANNISTON — Damien Dorsey will return to Anniston, this time as the Bulldogs’ head football coach.

The Anniston Board of Education approved Dorsey’s hiring at a special-called meeting Tuesday, ending a search of more than two months. Dorsey’s hiring received three yes votes, one no and one abstention.

Member Dottie Rimpsey-Eason voted no, and Joan Frazier abstained. Board president Donald Gilley, Dr. Mary Herrington and Rodney Fomby voted yes on Suprintendent Dr. D. Ray Hill’s recommendation to hire Dorsey.

“I feel that he’s going to help the team,” Fomby said. “He’s a graduate of Anniston High School. My thing is that he’s going to be good on the field and off the field.

“When I say on the field, as far as coaching, and off the field, as far as working with the community. He’s somewhat familiar with the community. We can probably get some good players. I know this first year is probably going to be kind of rough, but I just believe that, with us supporting him on the field and off the field, the Bulldogs will rise again.”
