Spring roundup

All of the baseball, softball and soccer one could possibly want on a full day of spring sports action around the area.

Going around the horn and across the pitch on Tuesday’s area high school baseball, softball and soccer action:

Baseball

MUNORD 14, WHITE PLAINS 4: Munford’s Braydon Nichols went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and a run.

Braylon Stewart went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and L Gallahair had a double and two RBIs. Braden Finch also drove in two runs, and Kane Krafthefer had a single, an RBI and a run.

Nichols, B.J. Anderson and Bryson Cooper combined to hold White Plains hitless, but they issued seven walks. Nichols struck out 10 batters with four walks in five innings. 

PLEASANT VALLEY 9, WEST END-WALNUT GROVE 2: Pleasant Valley’s Jackson Acker went 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs, and Walker Roper had a single and two RBIs.

Greer Laros and L Beason had an RBI apiece, and Dixon Duncan doubled and scored a run. Peyton Mann singled and scored two runs.

Acker got the win, allowing two hits, one walk and one earned run with five strikeouts in four innings. Wesley Wheeler pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out six batters.

ALEXANDRIA 16, COOSA CHRISTIAN 1: Alexandria’s Jeremiah Heathcock went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs.

Wilson Patterson went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, and Emmett Waldrep had a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Jace Goggans added two RBIs and two runs.

Garrett Haynes, Cole Wheeler, Knox Faulkner, Cam Johnson and Brodie Barber had an RBI apiece.

J.D. Copeland got the win, allowing three hits, one earned run and no walks with four strikeouts in three innings.  

Coosa Christian’s Radley Mays went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

HOKES BLUFF 2, JACKSONVILLE 0: Dean Morgan had a double and RBI, and Carson Peppers singled with an RBI to account for the game’s scoring. Tanner Rutledge doubled and scored a run.

Micah Brasher struck out 11 batters and allowed four hits in seven innings for the complete-game victory.

Jacksonville got a double  apiece from Nick Johnson and Luke Richardson.They also pitched three innings apiece, with Johnson striking out four batters and allowing three hits and Richardon allowing one hit with three strikeouts.

GLENCOE 16, GASTON 4: Glencoe’s Cooper Gomez went 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and a run, and Aiden Johnson went 3-for-4, two doubles, three RBIs and three runs.

Daniel Bradley went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, and Colby Cox went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Jaxon Hollis added a single, three runs and an RBI.

Bradley got the win, striking out five batters with four walks and allowing two hits and three earned runs in four innings.

HOPE CHRISTIAN 13-14, NORTH RIVER 1-0: Hope (5-2) swept a doubleheader to complete a three-game sweep over two days.

Kainen Bozeman went 3-for-3 with a triple and three runs in Tuesday’s first game. Easten Strickland went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run, and Caden Marturello went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Cayden Slick had a single, RBI and two runs.

Trevor Ryals and Liam Avery combined to hold North River hitless over three innings. Avery struck out four batters in two innings, and Ryals struck out two batters in one inning.

Slick allowed one hit in two innings in the second game, striking out five batters.

Strickland homered while going 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs, and Anquan Montgomery went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Hope got a single and RBI apiece from Kingston Eagle, Aziah Amberson, Marturello, Brody Ogles and Carson Campbell. Eagle, Amberson and Marturello each scored two runs.

SPRING GARDEN 8-12, SAND ROCK 1-0: The Panthers improved to 2-2 with a doubleheader sweep.

Clayton Sadler went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs in the first game, and Ben Baker went 2-for-2 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Baker and Zane Edwards combined to hold Sand Rock to six hits. Baker struck out five batters in 2 2/3 innings, and Edwards struck out four batters in four innings.

Sadler pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in the second game. He also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Joel Hunter went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Brady Ruark went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs. Baker went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs.

Zack Scoggin had a double, an RBI and a run.

WEAVER 11, CEDAR BLUFF 5: Weaver’s Tucker Michael homered while going 3-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs, and Connor Hyatt doubled twice while going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run.

Landon Free went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Peyton Andrews and Lyric Newman contributed an RBI apiece.

Hyatt struck out four batters in four innings while getting the win. Free pitched two perfect innings with five strikeouts. 

Softball

OXFORD 10, LINCOLN 9: Oxford scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to take a 10-8 lead and held off Lincoln’s rally in the bottom of the inning.

Oxford’s Jayla Jackson continued her early season tear, going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, two runs and two RBIs. She also pitched the complete game for the win, striking out eight batters.

Emma Tims-Becerra went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs, and Madison Murphy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

Kylee Stephens hit a solo home run and scored two runs. Jordyn Alexander had a double, a run and an RBI, and Cadence Kennedy had a double and RBI.

Lincoln’s Cameron Pruitt went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run, and Chandler Stephens went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, two RBIs and a run. Shelby Williams homered and had two RBIs.

Aubrey Machen went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and an RBI.

Emery Hendrix hit a double with an RBI and two runs.

JACKSONVILLE 11, PLEASANT VALLEY 4: Jacksonville’s Ava Snead went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and three runs.

Jaylen Huntley homered while going 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs, and Alyssa Barnes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Chloe Lockett added a single and two RBIs, Sadie Pate-Whitfield went 2-for-3 with a double and a run, and Ana Strain doubled and scored a run.

Avery Allen pitched a complete game for the win, allowing nine hits, four earned runs but no walks with three strikeouts.

Pleasant Valley’s Cailey Almaroad went 3-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Alexa Cranmer went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Hanna Henry had an RBI. Elise Wheeler went 2-for-3, and Ava Denham went 2-for-3 with two runs.

PIEDMONT 10, WEAVER 9: Piedmont’s Amarae Champion went 2-for-4 with a triple, four RBIs and a run, and Piedmont took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Kaelyn Greene went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. She hit a two-run single in Piedmont’s four-run sixth.

Anna Hase went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs. Nakiya Bothwell went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI.

Keagan Rogers and Callie Faulkner combined to strike out 11 batters over seven innings.

Weaver’s Ashlyn Coleman went 1-for-3 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs, and Caitlyn Edmondson went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run.

Maddie Stanford went 2-for-5 with a run. Ariel Sargent had a single, an RBI and two runs, and Jaylyn Medley had a single, an RBI and a run.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 17, GASTON 4: Addy Lee went 3-for-5 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs, and JCA opened its season with a victory.

Audrinna Williams went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run, and Mollie Mullinax went 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Symone Estelle went 2-for-5, including a solo home run, and scored twice.

Sophie Williams allowed no hits, no earned runs and three walks with six strikeouts in four innings.

CHILDERSBURG 4, OHATCHEE 3: Childersburg’s Deyanna Swain homered while going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Kelsie Kelly went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Taraji Jones had a single and an RBI.

Madison Brooks pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits, four walks and three earned runs with 11 strikeouts.

Ohatchee’s Annie Cox went 3-for-4 with a run, and Madison Mize went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Alanah Fitch had a single and scored a run.

Cox and Makayla Brackett combined for 10 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. 

RANDOLPH COUNTY 17, CENTRAL-COOSA 0: Randolph County’s Abi Waters pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts over three innings. She also had a double, two RBIs and a run.

Kinsley Weathers went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. Bryer Thompson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and Hannah Parmer went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Lizzie Milam hit a double, scored two runs and drove in a run.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 17, WELLBORN 11: Cleburne County’s Alleigh Prince went 4-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs, and L Sheldon doubled with three RBIs and two runs.

Daylea Brewster went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Claire Humphries went 3-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a run. 

Lliah Robinson went 4-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Kyree Hilburn went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

The Tigers outhit Wellborn 21-17.

Wellborn’s Cassidy Gray homered while going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs. Addy Bowman doubled while going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Braelyn Bean went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs, and Brylee Ward tripled while going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run. Ryleigh Smith went 2-for-4 with a double and three runs.

Soccer

WHITE PLAINS BOYS 8, CLEBURNE COUNTY 1: White Plains’ Anthony Osorto scored four goals. Jonathan Marin added two goals. Caleb Goode and Axl Jenkins added one apiece, and Landon Morrow had three assists.

WHITE PLAINS GIRLS 4, CLEBURNE COUNTY 0: Layla Garcia scored four goals. Nathaly Rosas, Selma Pascual and Ximena Uribe had an assist apiece.

JACKSONVILLE GIRLS 10, SAKS 0: Jacksonville’s Emerson Weaver scored six goals to reach 21 on the season and added two assists. Grace Boothe, Willa Kate Walker added a goal and an assist apiece. Sophia Snyder scored a goal and had two saves, and Lexi Page scored a goal.

JACKSONVILLE BOYS 4, SAKS 0: Colin Thurman scored two goals, and the Golden Eagles got a goal apiece from Cooper Morgan and Judah Jennings. Morgan, Christian Garner and Dion Harris had an assist apiece. Jackson Patterson had two saves.
