Spring roundup

WP’s Otwell, Oxford’s Jackson each homer in three games. Lots more reports as we go around the horn in prep baseball and softball.

SOUTHSIDE — Karli Otwell homered in three games today as White Plains beat Arab 18-3 and Bob Jones 12-2 and lost to Madison County 11-7 at Southside.

White Plains had 17 hits against Arab. Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and a run. Otwell went 2-for-4 with a home run, double, three RBIs and two runs. Sara Kate Adams went 2-for-2 with three runs and three RBIs, and Jaylie Holt went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs. 

Piper Thompson went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI, and Carli Fritts went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Emma Tidwell added a double and a run. 

Kinsley Gross got the win, pitching all four innings. She allowed five hits, two earned runs and no walks with six strikeouts.

Fritts got the win against Bob Jones, striking out 12 batters with one walk and allowing three hits in five innings. She also homered while going 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Otwell went 4-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs, and Rylee Smith went 2-for-3 with a home run, a triple, two RBIs and a run.

Holt went 2-for-4 with a triple, double and three RBIs.

Otwell also homered against Madison County, giving her a home run in all three games on the day. She went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs.

Elena Hogan had a single and RBI, and Thompson had an RBI.

OXFORD WINS TWO OF THREE: Jayla Jackson homered in all three games, and the Yellow Jackets (3-1) beat Bob Jones 5-2 and Piedmont 7-0 and lost to Madison County 7-6 on Saturday at Southside.

Against Bob Jones, Jackson went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, an RBI and two runs. She also pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one hit, one walk  and no runs with three strikeouts.

Emma Tims-Becerra went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Kylee Stephens and Tymeria Smith-Lindsey added an RBI apiece.

Jackson pitched a three hitter with five strikeouts and no walks against Piedmont. She also homered and had two RBIs.

Charleigh Trotter homered and had three RBIs. Madison Murphy singled with two RBIs and a run. Haleigh Pruitt went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs, and Sfephens went 2-for-3 with a double.

Oxford outhit Madison County 11-7, with Jackson going 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Jordyn Alexander went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run. Murphy went 3-for-3 with a double and RBI, and Stephens doubled and scored a run. 

OHATCHEE SPLITS: The Indians (3-1) beat Hokes Bluff 3-2 and lost to Munford 4-0 on Saturday.

Ohatchee beat Hokes Bluff with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Reese Steward’s fielder’s choice scored Alanah Fitch, and Maddie Stone scored on a wild pitch.

Steward had a double and two RBIs, and Fitch went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Asia Keith went 2-for-2 with a double.

Makayla Brackett pitched five innings, allowing five hits, no earned runs and two walks with seven strikeouts.

Hokes Bluff’s Rylee Hill went 1-for-3 with an RBI against Ohatchee.

Fitch, Steward and Madison Mize singled to account for Ohatchee’s three hits against Munford.

WEAVER DROPS TWO: The Bearcats (0-4) fell to Arab 5-3 and Bob Jones 13-0.

Heaven Bishop had a double and RBI against Arab, and Weaver got an RBI apiece from Ariel Sargent and Jaylyn Medley. Caitlyn Edmondson and Reyleigh Partner each singled and scored a run.

LINCOLN 12, WELLBORN 4: Lincoln’s Cameron Pruitt went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs, and Auibrey Machen tripled with three RBIs and two runs.

Gracyn Ogelsby went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and pinch hitter Shelbi Hubbard doubled and scored a run.

Wellborn got a single and a run apiece from Ryleigh Smith and Zierra Foster.

Baseball

ALEXANDRIA 4, RANBUNE 3: Emmett Waldrep’s sacrifice fly plated the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Alexandria beat Ranburne 4-3 in Saturday’s high school baseball action.

Waldrep’s sacrifice fly scored Cooper Smith, who singled to reach base.

Waldrep led the Valley Cubs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run.

Cam Johnson also had an RBI.

Brodie Barber pitched four innings, striking out six batters while allowing three hits, one earned run and three walks. Smith allowed one hit and no runs with one strikeouts in two innings of relief.

Ranburne’s James Ward went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, and Asher Brown went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Drew Davenport went 2-for-4.

OXFORD SPLITS: The Yellow Jackets (1-2) beat Lincoln 4-1 and lost to Hewitt-Trussville 12-0.

Charlie Maniscalco had a triple and RBI against Lincoln, and Bryson Bradford had an RBI. Asa Burns doubled and scored a run.

Ashton Clark, Noah Oswalt, Zach Richardson and Chase Williams combined to hold Lincoln to five hits and one earned run. 

Lincoln’s Nicholas Catlett went 2-for-3 with a double, and Mark Darby hit a double. N Wright had an RBI.

Canaan Whitman doubled against Hewitt-Trussville, and Ayden Noyola had the Yellow Jackets’ other hit, a single. 

PIEDMONT 11, SPRING GARDEN 0: Charlie Sparks pitched a three-hitter with four strikeouts in five innings, and Piedmont improved to 2-0.

Aliandre Wright went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Ben Dempsey went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs.

Brenan Hurst went 1-for-2 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Carson Sanders went 1-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Eli Johnson went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Cole Austin doubled and scored a run, and Alex Bass doubled with an RBI.

Spring Garden got a hit apiece from Clayton Sadler, Dawson Ellzey and Zack Scogin.

WEAVER 5, CEDAR BLUFF 3: Tucker Michaels went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs, and Weaver (1-2) got its first victory under first-year head coach Kolby Brannon.

Connor Hyatt doubled with an RBI and a run. Zane Hairrell went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Landon Free singled with an RBI.

Michaels got the win, striking out 14 batters with no walks and allowing three hits and one earned run in 6 2/3 innings.
