Spring roundup

Jacksonville’s Hayes, Ohatchee’s Welch get first victories. Lots and lots of baseball and softball on the season’s second day, so see how your favorite school fared.

MUNFORD —– John Ducar pitched 4 2/3 hitless innings, and Jacksonville downed Munford 6-0 in Friday’s high school baseball action to give first-year head coach Taylor Hayes his first victory as a high school head coach.

Ducar struck out six batters with two walks, allowing no runs.

Matthew Salmon led Jacksonville at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a triple, two RBIs and a run. 

Layton Owensby went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and S Wagoner went 2-for-3 with a double and a run. Parker Moore added a double.

WHITE PLAINS 8, WELLBORN 7: Caden Foster’s walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the seventh lifted White Plains to 2-0.

Beau Madrigal had three RBIs, and Jacob Stamm had a double and three runs. Logan Laube added a single, a run and an RBI.

Wellborn’s Tanner Ingram homered while going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Dalton Dillard doubled with an RBI, and the Panthers got an RBI apiece from Eli Wicklund and Zane Hill.

OHATCHEE 11, ASHVILLE 1: Jayden Green went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Ohatchee won its opener under first-year head coach Jake Welch.

Sawyer Beegle went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run, and the Indians got an RBI apiece from Josh Hulbert and Kaleb Brunner. Hulbert also scored two runs.

Beagle allowed one hit, no runs and no walks with seven strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. 

FAITH CHRISTIAN 11, TALLADEGA 10: Sam Ricard advanced on a balk and scored on a passed ball in the eighth inning, and Faith opened its season with a victory.

Levi Wells led the Lions at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Tanner Smith went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs, and Paul Kaiser had two RBIs.

Luke Robertson went 1-for-2 and scored four runs. He also got the win, allowing three hits, no walks and no earned runs with six strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Talladega’s Tyler Floyd went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBIs and a run. Cortney Ragland went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run, and Dekarie Curry went 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs and one RBI.

RANBURNE 12, CENTRAL-CLAY 2: Drew Davenport went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and Ranburne won its opener. He also allowed one hit, one walk and no runs with four strikeouts in three innings.

Owen Henderson had a double and two RBIs, and Aiden Jackson had a single and two RBIs. Colton Johnson had a single, RBI and a run, and Cason Jones doubled and scored a run.

Central-Clay’s Ryder Waldrop doubled and scored a run, and the Vols got an RBI apiece from Kamden Mullins and Ridge Waldrep.

CHAMBERS ACADEMY 3, HOPE CHRISTIAN 2: Hope’s Kainen Bozeman went 1-for-3 with a double, and Liam Avery had an RBI. Colby Slick went 1-for-2 with a run.

Pitcher Aziah Amberson worked five innings, allowing four hits and two walks with no earned runs and seven strikeouts. Slick struck out three batters and walked two in two innings of relief.

SOUTHSIDE 7, ALEXANDRIA 3; Kolt Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run as Southside improved to 2-0. 

Alex Brewer doubled with two RBIs and a run, and Abe Martin had a single, an RBI and a run.

Ethan Sarratt got the win, allowing three hits, two walks and one earned run with five strikeouts.

Alexandria’s Jeremiah Heathcock and Jacob Slaton each had a single and an RBI.

Softball

OHATCHEE WINS TWO: The Indians beat Wellborn 11-2 and Jacksonville 4-1.

Alanah FItch and Reese Steward each had a double and two RBIs against Wellborn, and Annie Cox doubled and scored two runs.

Mollee Barness singled with two RBIs and scored a run, and Blaze Steward added a single, an RBI and a run.

Makayla Brackett allowed no hits or runs with seven strikeouts in three innings.

Wellborn got a single and a run apiece from Cassidy Gray and Brylee Ward.

Against Jacksonville, Jordyn Faulkner pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts in five innings, and Madison Mize homered with two RBIs. Cox added a single and an RBI, and Reese Steward had a double and a run.

Jacksonville’s Jaylen Huntley doubled with an RBI.

WHITE PLAINS WINS TWO: The Wildcats beat Piedmont 12-0 and Weaver 24-1.

Carli Fritts pitched four perfect innings against Piedmont, striking out nine batters. She also had a single and RBI.

Karli Otwell led the way at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, six RBIs and two runs.

Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI, and Emma Tidwell doubled with two RBIs and a run.

Sara Kate Adams hit a single and scored three runs.

Kinsleigh Gross allowed one hit with five strikeouts in three innings against Weaver, and Green went 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs.

Ansley Prichard went 2-for-3 with a triple, four RBIs and two runs, and Tidwell went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs.

Fritts went 2-for-2 with a double, two runs and one RBI, and Adams went 1-for-2 with a double, three runs and one RBI.

Caitlyn Edmondson had Weaver’s lone hit, a single.

JACKSONVILLE 12, WELLBORN 1: Jaylen Huntley and Ava Snead homered. Snead drove in three runs and scored two, and Huntley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs.

Alyssa Barnes went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Ana Strain went 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and two RBIs. Caroline Christopher went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Sadie Pate-Whitfield went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.

Snead pitched four innings, allowing three hits, one earned run and one walk with two strikeouts.

Wellborn’s three hits included a double apiece from Cassidy Gray and Peyton Wilson.

RANBURNE 7, HOKES BLUFF 1: Playing at Woodland Park in Anniston, Ranburne’s Addison Gibbs allowed three hits, no earned runs and no walks with three strikeouts in four innings. She also went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

K.K. Rollins went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and one RBI, and Rylie Duke went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI.

The Bulldogs also lost to Boaz 15-0.

MUNFORD 4, ASHVILLE 2: Munford’s Madison Arnold went 2-for-2 with a triple, double, one RBI and one run, and Chloe Pickette went 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run.

Kastin Lathem had a single, RBI and run.

Brooklyn Pressley pitched three innings, allowing two hits, one earned run and one walk with two strikeouts.

LINCOLN 6, MUNFORD 3: Lincoln’s Aubrey Machen hit a solo home run and scored two runs.

Amrie Wells and Emery Hendrix each had a single and an RBI, and Shelby Williams struck out five batters while allowing four hits, two earned runs and two walks in four innings.

Munford’s Brooklyn Pressley homered with two RBIs, and Kastin Lathem added an RBI. 

SOUTHSIDE 8, WEAVER 1: Southside’s Paxton Huddleston allowed two hits with 10 strikeouts in five innings, and Alexandra Machen went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run.

Raynlee Daugherty had a double and two runs, and the Panthers got a single and RBI apiece from Llana Stewart, Anna Chappell and Landrie Hill.

Weaver’s Reyleigh Partner went 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI.
