SECTION — Pleasant Valley will spend its open date celebrating history and preparing to make more history.

Braxton Salster rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the Raiders concluded their regular season with a 45-7 victory at Section on Friday.

The victory was Pleasant Valley’s ninth, setting the school single-season record. The Raidrers improved to 9-1, 5-1 in Class 2A, Region 7.

“Very proud of this team and this accomplishment,” 11th-year Pleasant Valley coach Jonathan Nix said. “They set a goal to be 10-0 and came up one game short of that goal.

“We as a staff love how they work so hard each week at practice to chase those goals. It’s ‘we’ over ‘me’ mentality.”

The Raiders will play host to Wilcox County in a first-round playoff game Nov. 7, marking the second year in a row and third time in program history for Pleasant Valley to earn a first-round game at home.

The top two qualifiers in every region open the playoffs at home. Pleasant Valley is runner up to Pisgah in Region 7.

Pleasant Valley will seek its first-ever playoff victory while making the program’s seventh playoff appearance. The Raiders have played varsity football since 1982.

Salster rushed for 66 yards, including touchdown runs of five and 42 yards. He completed seven of 10 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Cooper Dougal caught five passes for 63 yards, including an 11-yard touchdown pass from Salster. Nic Acker had two catches for 68 yards, including a 24-yard touchdown pass from Salster.

Kayden Vick rushed seven times for 45 yards. 

Jaden Sparks, who came back to play this season despite suffering a torn ACL in the Pisgah game, rushed for a touchdown. He also had five tackles.

Izayah Nevens led the Raiders’ defense with nine tackles. His performance included two tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.

Walker Roper’s six tackles included two for loss, and Salster’s six tackles included three for loss.

Dougal and Jameson Humphrey each had an interception, and Jake Barnwell kicked a 33-yard field goal.

ANNISTON 51, WHITE PLAINS 6: Isaac Mikle rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns, and Anniston improved to 9-0 and finished 7-0 in Class 4A, Region 6 play headed into next week’s non-region showdown at Jacksonville to conclude the regular season.

Mikle’s touchdown runs covered 38 and 19 yards. He also had two passes receptions for 59 yards and a toouchdown.

Quintavious Cunningham added 61 yards rushing, and Jabari Williams’ 40 yards included a 12-yard touchdown run.

Quarterback JaMorrris Young completed four of seven passes for 61 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to Mikle, and had a 5-yard touchdown run.

Elijjah Lanier returned two interceptions for touchdowns, covering 61 and 26 yards, and Kyree Lewis returned an interception 90 yards for a score.

ALEXANDRIA 40, ETOWAH 22: J.J. Beason rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns, and Alexandria upped to 8-1 overall, 6-1 in Class 4A, Region 6.

The Valley Cubs will close out the regular season next week at Munford then play host to Fayette County in the first round of the playoffs.

Beason’s touchdown runs covered 11 and 56 yards.

Jayden Nixon’s 92 yards rushing included a 46-yard touchdown run.

Quarterback Cole Wheeler completed all 10 of his passes for 160 yards, with a 73-yard touchdown pass to M.J. Morris. Wheeler also had a 1-yard touchdown run.

Ryan Brown added an 8-yard touchdown run.

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 63, WEAVER 20: Brody Blevins connected on 15 of 17 passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns, and Westbrook Christian improved to 8-1 overall, 6-1 in Class 3A, Region 6.

The Warriors close out the regular season at home against Wellborn next week.

Blevins threw touchdown passes of 36 and 24 yards to Bo Kilgo and 10 yards to Brodie Johnson. Blevins also had a 10-yard touchdown run.

Westbrook Christian also got touchdown runs of 15 yards from Brodey Wood, one yard from Taylor Brown and three yards from Maximus Jones, and Justus Jones returned an interception 47 yards for a score.

Kilgo finished up at quarterback and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Parker Sims. Kilgo also had a team-high 70 yards on four receptions.

Wensley Shannon led all Warrior runners with 76 yards on seven carries, and Wood added 58 yards on six runs.

Weaver’s Junior Allen threw touchdown passes of 76 and 61 yards to Francisco Nira and added an 80-yard touchdown run.

GLENCOE 45, LOCUST FORK 14: Jaymen Mintz hit on nine of 14 passes for 177 yards and three touchdowns, and Glencoe upped to 7-2 overall, 6-1 in Class 3A, Region 6.

The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season with a region game at undefeated Piedmont next week. A victory at Piedmont forces a three-way tie for first place and a tiebreaker.

Mintz hit on touchdown passes of 15 and 14 yards to Isaiah Young and 29 yards to Aiden Johnson.

Alex Hudson rushed for 125 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown run. Bronner McMurray had a 5-yard touchdown run on the way to 61 yards rushing, and Jalen Hunter’s 29 yards rushing included a 5-yard touchdown run.

OHATCHEE 28, SAKS 8: Gus Hunter rushed for 92 yards and three touchdowns, and Ohatchee improved to 3-7, 2-6 in Class 3A, Region 6

Saks fell to 1-8, 0-7.

Carson Sanders added a rushing touchdown, and Ohatchee gained 245 of its 262 total yards on the ground.

Ohatchee’s Alston Carroll and Phoenix Tuiolosega each had an interception. 

CENTRAL-CLAY 6, PELL CITY 3: A J.T. Wilkerson touchdown pass to Zion Newell proved to be all the Vols needed Friday as Class 5A’s fifth-ranked team knocked off a playoff-bound 6A opponent on the road.

Wilkerson completed five of 10 passes for 77 yards and a touchdown, and Newell caught a team-high two passes for a team-high 53 yards.

Taylor Boyd rushed 12 times for 58 yards.

Central-Clay gained 215 total yards to Pell City’s 237 but held Pell City to a field goal.

RANDOLPH COUNTY 47, BEULAH 0: Mo Winston rushed for 137 yards and four touchdowns, and Randolph County upped to 7-2 overall and 4.2 in Class 3A, Region 4 headed into next week’s regular-season finale against Hokes Bluff at home

Winston’s touchdowns covered 52, 21 and 55 yards. He gained all of his yards and scored all of his touchdowns in the first quarter.

The Tigers rushed for 356 of their 363 total yards.
