FLORENCE — Westbrook Christian’s boys earned their 15th consecutive state tournament berth Monday, shooting a school-record 290 total to finish second in the 4A North sub-state touney today at Blackberry Trail Golf Course.

Senior and Jackson State signee J.D. Berndt fired a 3-under-parr 69 to lead the Warriors. Senior and Snead State signee Cove McHugh finished with a 1-under 71.

Freshman Max Carr posted his best score of the season with a 2-over 74, and sophomore Jackson Robbins also posted his best score of the season at 4-over 76.

Haleyville won at 6-under 282, and Westbrook edged Brooks by two strokes for the second and final state-qualifying spot.

“I’m so proud of this group of kids,” Westbrook coach Rob McHugh said. “They played their guts out today. Cove and J.D. being seniors just decided that they were going to do whatever they had to do to keep the consecutive state championship streak alive. Then Max Carr and Jackson Robbins played lights out today.

“I can’t leave out our fifth score today, Brodie Abernathy, because he played phenomenal, also shooting a 6-over 78.”
