BIRMINGHAM — Faith Christian’s track program kept its momentum from the spring outdoor season in Saturday’s AHSAA state indoor championships.
Vinson Montgomery took first place in the 400-meter run and anchored the state champion 4×200 relay team, and the Lions took second place in the Class 1A-3A division in Birmingham CrossPlex.

Faith, a Class 1A school, scored 54 points as a team. Class 3A Dadeville finished first with 69.
Rounding out the top 10 were Altamont (47), Holly Pond (39), J.B. Pennington (36), Winfield (34), Providence Christian (27), Alabama Christian (23), Falkville (22) and Westminster-Oak Mountain (20).
Donoho was 11th with 19 points.
Faith finished as Class 1A state runner up in the outdoor season, in May.
Montgomery teamed with Jayden Smith, Parker Robertson and Jack Strautman on the gold-medal-winning 4×200 team, which finished in one minute, 34.23 seconds. They beat Reeltown’s foursome by .18 seconds.
Montgomery and Smith also teamed with Brooks Earl and Jack Tant to finish third in the 4×400 (3:46.40).
Montgomery finished the 400 in 51.98, beating ACA’s David Ortiz-Ramirez by .24 seconds. He also scored with a seventh-place finish in the 60 dash (7.46).

Taft took second in the high jump (5-10), and Smith was third (5-8).
Strautman also scored with a fourth-place finish in the triple jump (38-10.25), and Smith took fourth in the long jump (18-05.75).
The Lions also scored with a seventh-place finish in the 4×800 relay (9:45.41).
For Faith’s girls, Kamden Boyd finished third in the high jump (4-06) and sixth in the long jump (14-06.25). Anna Claire Mitchell scored with an eighth-place finish in the 3,200 (13:45.64).
“I couldn’t be prouder of this bunch,” Faith coach Doug Strautman said. “A small group of fierce competitors that overreached our expectations for sure.
“We are still a young program in our third year of track and field. So this result, in the 1-3A classification, is very special for sure. I love the momentum this provides us as we roll into outdoor season next week. Feed the Lions!”
