Road win

Monsters get solid start from Tarpley, key pinch hit en route to victory at Cartersville, improve to 4-0 on season.

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — William Tarpley gave the Choccolocco Monsters a solid start, and they began a six-game road swing with a 3-2 victory over the Cartersville Cannons on Monday.

Tarpley pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and one run with five strikeouts. Harris Burns and closer Avery Brown finished the job, and the Monsters improved to 4-0.

All three Monsters runs occurred in the top of the seventh, and all three during Fisher Moss’ pinch-hit at bat. Jake Goolsby, who reached on a walk, scored on a balk, and Moss’ single plated Hayes Harrison and Dawson Campbell.

The Monsters will play at Cartersville on Wednesday at 6:05 p.m.
