WHITE PLAINS — Jackson Bonner went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, and Jacksonville held off a White Plains rally to win 10-9 in Class 4A, Area 9 play and score a milestone win for its head coach.

Jamison Edwards got his 100th career victory as Jacksonville bagged its fifth consecutive victory and improved to 14-11.

“Just thinking about all the guys that have played for me,” Edwards said. “It’s really about them. Just glad they’ve let me stay around long enough to see it.”

Xaye Lemon went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Drake Loggins went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

White Plains rallied from a 10-1 deficit with four runs in the sixth inning and four in the seventh. Cooper Tinney led the way going 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs and three RBIs. F Tillison had two doubles and an RBI, and Dalton Luker had a single and two RBIs.

WELLBORN 16, WEAVER 3: Wellborn got three RBIs apiece from Sean Perez, Aziah Amberson, Brennan Talley and Dozer Hayes while scoring a Class 3A, Area 10 victory to clinch the Panthers’ first playoff berth since 2017.

Hayes went 4-for-5 with two runs. Talley and Amberson had two hits apiece, and Perez took advantage of four of the 11 walks Weaver issued.

C O’Brien had two hits and an RBI, and Wellborn got a single and RBI apiece from Will Phillips, Tanner Ingram and John Talley.

Amberson allowed five hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts in six innings, and John Talley struck out two batters in his one inning of relief.

PIEDMONT 14-18, SAKS 4-0: Piedmont completed a 3A, Area 10 sweep of Saks, outscoring the Wildcats 58-4 while improving to 16-8.

Winless Saks hit 12 batters Thursday, six in each game, to run the series total to 25. They tied a state record with 13 in Piedmont’s 26-0 win on Wednesday.

Piedmont also stole 28 bases in Thursday’s two games. Cole Austin had seven steals, five in the second game.

Hayes Gunn led the way in the opener, going 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.

Piedmont also got a double and RBI apiece from Brodie Homesley, Trevor Pike, Jonah Pike and McClane Mohon.

Saks’ Jacori Avery went 2-for-3 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs.

In the nightcap, Piedmont got a single and RBI apiece from Mohon, Homesley, Cole Austin, Brenan Hurst, Grayson Hare, Brayden Estes, Cole Wilson, Mayson Vaughn and Chase Kirkpatrick.

OXFORD 5-4, FORT PAYNE 4-0: Oxford completed a 6A, Area 13 sweep, improving to 20-8.

The Yellow Jackets scored all five of its Game 1 runs in the sixth inning. The rally included RBI singles from Reid and Rocco Maniscalco and run-scoring grounders from Tide Gann and Judd Syer. Forrest Heacock was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.

Nick Richardson allowed five hits and one earned run with five strikeouts in five innings.

Gavin Griner, Bryson Bradford and Hudson Gilman combined to allow three hits in Game 2, Griner struck out six batters in five innings.

R.J. Brooks had a triple and two RBIs, and Gann doubled and scored a run. Richardson went 2-for-3 and scored a run.

ALEXANDRIA 12-15, LINCOLN 0-2: Alexandria (17-8) completed a 5A, Area 12 sweep.

Tripp Patterson pitched a four-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and one walk in the opener.

Evan Snow doubled and drove in three runs, and Samuel Henegar singled with two RBIs.

Brodie Slaton and Ty Brown had to hits apiece. Slaton scored two runs, and Brown had an RBI.

Ian Cartwright and Nic Thompson each had a single and RBI, and AIden Brunner hit a double and scored a run.

Brunner went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs, and Cartwright had two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.

Thompson had a single, a run and three RBIs, Henegar went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Brown a single, two runs and an RBI.

Brayden Thacker got the win, allowing five hits and one earned run with four strikeouts in five innings.

PLEASANT VALLEY 21, SUSAN MOORE 0: In non-area play, Pleasant Valley (13-7) pounded out 24 hits. 

Samuel Duncan and Braxton Salster had three hits and four RBIs apiece, and Will Underwood had three hits and three RBIs. 

John Garrett Bryant had three hits, including a double, and two RBIs, and Noah Johnson had two hits and two RBIs.

Duncan pitched a five-hit shutout with seven strikeouts.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 3-16, RAGLAND 2-15: JCA scored two 1A, Area 12 victories, rallying from an 11-0 deficit to win the second game.

The Thunder’s rally started with six runs in the second inning, and JCA scored the other 10 runs in the final four innings.

Noah Lee went 2-for-3 with a triple, a run and four RBIs. Bryson Dowdey went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs, and Jesse Gannaway drove in two runs.

Travis Barnhill pitched a one-hitter in the opener, striking out 11 batters with two walks in seven innings. He also had an RBI.

Dowdey went 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Gannaway was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs, stealing home in the bottom of the sixth inning for what stood up as the winning run.

DONOHO 1-7, GASTON 7-0: Hayes Farrell pitched a one-hitter with eight strikeouts, and Donoho won Game 3 to take a Class 2A, Area 13 series. He also had an RBI.

Kai Cleckler had two doubles and two RBIs, and Peyton Webb went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.

Jordan Cameron drove in a run.

Farrell had a single and an RBI in the first game.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 11, HORSESHOE BEND 1: Nathan Wright pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts as the Tigers won a non-area game to improve to 12-4. He also had an RBI.

Gabriel Wickersham had a double and scored two runs, and Matthew Wilson had a single, two runs and two RBIs.

Hunter Gore went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Nathan Adams had two RBIs. Jake LIttleton and Jayson Deese each had a single and an RBI.

MUNFORD 2-10, HANDLEY 3-0: Munford (15-6) took Game 3 to win a 4A, Area 8 series on the strength of Alex Petty’s one-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Gatlin Watts had a single and three RBIs, and Austin Wynn had a single and two RBIs. Braydon Nichols had a single and RBI, and Lathan Stephens went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Handley won Game 2 of the series thanks to a three-run rally in the sixth inning. Elijah Goss, Brodie Arnett and Coye Potts each had an RBI single. 

Softball

HANDLEY 7, MUNFORD 0: Mariana Whaley pitched a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts as Handley improved to 13-3.

Kamlyn Holloway had a double, a run and two RBIs, and Ava Hill went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Ella Hopper was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Kia Brown had a double and an RBI.

SPRING GARDEN 3, CEDAR BLUFF 0: Avery Steward pitched a four-hitter with six strikeouts, and Maggie Reedy went 2-for-4 with two RBIs as Spring Garden improved to 13-5.

Golf

ROGERS WINS: Two-time Calhoun County champion Isabel Rogers shot a 73 to win the Chesley Oaks Invitational, and White Plains’ girls finished third of 18 teams at 250. Westminster won at 238, and West Point was second at 247.
