PIEDMONT — Piedmont and Weaver will play on, past the Class 3A, Area 11 tournament.

Piedmont on Friday advanced to subregional play and the area final, beating eliminating Saks 82-28 in an area semifinal at Piedmont. Weaver eliminated Wellborn, 62-47.

Piedmont and Weaver will play in the area championship game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Piedmont. 

PIEDMONT 82, SAKS 28: Piedmont’s Ava Pope hit two 3-pointers and scored a game-high 24 points. She scored 19 points in the first half.

The Bulldogs’ other top performers:

Jaycee Glover: 14 points (four 3-pointers).
Carson Young: 10 points (two 3-pointers).
Morgan Studdard: eight points.

Saks’ top performers:

Meorri English: 12 points (two 3-pointers).
Alonna Crews: eight points.

WEAVER 62, WELLBORN 47: Weaver’s dynamic duo of Aaliyah Marks and D.J. Gibbs had a big night. Marks scored a game-high 26 points (one 3-pointer), and Gibbs scored 24 (four 3-pointers).

Weaver’s other top performers:

Brenley Russell: six points (6-for-8 free throws).

Wellborn’s top performers:

Anna Odom: 25 points (9-for-12 free throws).
Destiny Benefield: six points.

Class 1A, Area 12

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN: The boys beat Coosa Christian 53-49 to advance, and the girls beat Gaylesville 43-32 after Katie Beth Hudson hit two free throws with one second left.

JCA’s boys will play top seed Spring Garden on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., and JCA’s girls will play top seed Spring Garden at 5 p.m.

Saturday’s winners advance to the subregional round.

Top performers for JCA’s boys:

Noah Lee: 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, four steals.
Jesse Gannaway: 18 points, seven rebounds, seven assists.

Top performers for JCA’s girls:

Hudson: 19 points (one 3-pointer), 13 rebounds.
Addy Lee: 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, eight steals.

Class 1A, Area 8

DONOHO 64, ASD 16: Jayden Cameron led the way with 14 points, and Donoho advanced to play top seed Winterboro on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Monday’s winners advance to subregional play.

Donoho’s other top performers:

Ethan Bailey: 11 points (one 3-pointer).
Richard Goad: nine points (one 3-pointer).
Bruce Downey: eight points.
James Benkwith: eight points (one 3-pointer).
