Oxford tops Gadsden City, pushes host Fort Payne to five sets in Class 6A, Area 13 tournament. Yellow Jackets, Fort Payne advance to regional.

FORT PAYNE — Say this about Oxford’s volleyball team … the Yellow Jackets made host Fort Payne earn its Class 6A, Area 13 title.
Oxford pushed Fort Payne to five sets and pushed two sets to extra points before falling 22-25, 31-29, 25-19, 25-27, 11-15.
Both teams advanced to next week’s North Regional. Oxford advanced by virtue of its 25-12, 25-7, 25-13 victory over Gadsden City in Wednesday’s first round.
Oxford hopes to return to the Elite Eight for the second year in a row. They made it first the first time since 2016 last year.
Ava Thomas and Kaelyn Crossley made the all-tournament team at Fort Payne. Top performers for Oxford:
— Jamea Gaston: 51 digs.
— Arilyn Pool: 20 digs.
— Kaelyn Crossley: 31 digs.
— Ava Thomas: 38 kills.
— Daelyn Bozeman: 10 kills, six aces.
— Mileah Prince: 22 kills, four blocks.
— Jaslyn Montgomery: 18 kills, 12 blocks.
— Payton Brooks: 75 assists, three aces.
JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN: The Thunder beat Gaylesville 14-25, 30-28, 20-25, 25-23, 15-6 and lost to Spring Garden 25-4, 25-8, 25-8 in the Class 1A, Area 12 semifinals at Spring Garden. Top performers for JCA:
— Addy Lee: 16 kills, six blocks, three aces, six digs.
— Sophie Williams: 12 aces, four kills, two digs.
— Cali Sexton; four kills, four blocks, seven digs.
— Riley Sanders: 13 digs.
— Katie Beth Hudson: one kill, three blocks.
— Ary Ray: three aces, six kills.
— Taylor Cash: two aces, three digs.
— Sam Cash: three digs.
— Auby Kinloch: five digs.
