White Plains’ Edwards takes low medalist, and Wildcats finish second to advance to state tournament. Alexandria girls state-bound after second-place finish

SILVER LAKES — Sawyer Edwards shot a 6-under-par 66 to finish as low medalist Tuesday and lead White Plains’ boys to next week’s state tournament.

The Wildcats finished second as a team to qualify, 14 strokes back of Class 4A, North 3 Sub-State champion Haleyville.

The state tournament is Monday and Tuesday at RTF-Grand National, in Opelika.

Edwards won by four strokes over Haleyville’s Griffin Kimbrell. White Plains’ Zach Goss shot 1-over 73 to finish tied for fourth.

Other sub-state tourneys involving area teams are on-going. This story will be updated as results become available.

Girls

ALEXANDRIA QUALIFIES: Led by Marlee Hedgepeth’s 81, Alexandria’s girls shot 254 and finished second to Mars Hill Bible in the Class 4A-5A, North 2 sub-state tourney at Twin Bridges in Gadsden. The Valley Cubs finished four strokes back. Nevaeh Foster shot 85, and Avery Prickett shot 88.

White Plains finished third at 266. Isabel Rogers led the way at 81 and Madelyn Faulkner shot a 97. Rachel Gattis and Maylee Stewart each shot 103.

Oneonta’s Savannah Sandlin was low medalist at 70.
