Piedmont girls shoot way to sectional golf title, sub-state berth; White Plains boys advance in soccer playoffs with shutout over Cherokee County

GADSDEN — Brookelyn Goss shot a 98 to finish third individually and lead Piedmont’s to a first-place team finish in Monday’s Class 1A-3A, Section 3 girls’ golf tournament at Twin Bridges.

Piedmont finished with a team score of 323, four strokes better than second-place Weaver.

Piedmont’s Mayce Chandler shot a 109, and Reece Kirkpatrick shot a 116.

Alexis Cleveland led Weaver at 102, followed by Tessa Taubenheim at 110 and Demari Grant at 115.

Soccer

WHITE PLAINS BOYS 2, CHEROKEE COUNTY 0: Gleymar Perez scored twice, and White Plains advanced in the Class 4A playoffs. The Wildcats advanced to face Westbrook Christian at Choccolocco Park at a date and time to determined.

Goalie Hugo Mondragon and center back Brandon Menzdoza led the way on the back end as the Wildcats got the shutout.
