Barnes drives in go-ahead run as Alexandria tops Southside in baseball; Pleasant Valley, White Plains victorious in softball

ALEXANDRIA — Eli Barnes’ single in the bottom of the sixth inning scored Ty Brown with the go-ahead run, and Alexandria beat Southside 4-3 in Class 5A, Area 12 baseball action Tuesday.

Brown hit a two-out single ahead of Barnes and stole second base.

Andrew Allen finished off a complete game with 11 strikeouts, three walks and five hits allowed. He allowed no earned runs.

Also for Alexandria (12-3, 1-0 area), Aiden Brunner hit a double with an RBI, and Ian Cartwright drove in two runs.

RAGLAND 6, SAKS 2: Jake Donaldson pitched a one-hitter and had two hits to lead Ragland.

He struck out 13 batters and walked three. Saks scored one earned run.

Donaldson went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Ragland’s Casey Phillips went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Drake Kay went 2-for-4.

Mason Jairrels had Saks’ lone hit.

Softball

PLEASANT VALLEY 11, WOODLAND 6: Madyson Cromer went 3-for-4, and Rebekah Gannaway and Macey Roper each had two hits and an RBI to lead the Raiders (5-6).

Lily Henry and Haylie Lee combined to allow seven hits and one earned run with three strikeouts and no walks.

WHITE PLAINS 16, CLEBURNE COUNTY 9: Callie Richardson hit two home runs, and Cassidy Arnold and Leighton Arnold hit one apiece for White Plains (9-5).

Richardson went 3-for-4 overall with a double, three RBIs and four runs.

Leighton Arnold was 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, and Cassidy Arnold was 1-for-4 with a run and three RBIs.

Addison Bradley had two doubles, three runs and two RBIs and Hallie Williams had a double among her two hits with three runs.

Cooper Martin also drove in two runs with a hit, and Karli Otwell had a double among her two hits with a run.

Gray and Kaden Pritchett had three hits apiece for Cleburne County, and Pritchett drove in two runs. Harris also had two RBIs.

Jaylie Holt and Kaydence Wright each hit a double.
