Oxford bats come alive in doubleheader sweep of Central-Phenix City; Lee brings the Thunder for JCA; Alexandria, Weaver softball have big days at the plate

HOOVER — The top three in Oxford’s batting order all had big days Monday as the Yellow Jackets swept a doubleheader with Central-Phenix City, 13-0 and 12-1 at Hoover High School.

Leadoff hitter Nick Richardson went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBI in the opener, and No. 2 hitter Peyton Watts went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs. No. 3 hitter Carter Johnson also drove in a run

In the nightcap, Richardson went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBIs, Watts 1-for-3 with a run and RBI and Johnson 1-for-3 with a triple, run and three RBIs.

Watts also pitched four innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs with five strikeouts.

Hayes Harrison also had a big day for the Yellow Jackets, pitching four perfect innings in the first game for the win and going 3-for-6 with two RBIs on the day.

Oxford (14-4) will play a doubleheader against Fayetteville as part of the Choccolocco Park Spring Experience on Tuesday, starting at 11 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 13, WEAVER 4: Noah Lee went 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and four RBIs to lead the Thunder.

Lee also pitched an inning of relief, allowing one hit with two strikeouts.

JCA also got two RBIs apiece from Tyler Doggrell and Ethan Fair. Travis Barnhill and Justin Crocker each had two singles and an RBI.

Cam Moses got the win, working six innings. He allowed seven hits, six walks and four runs but struck out nine batters.

Softball

ALEXANDRIA 15, CENTRAL-CLAY 0: Pressley Slaton pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks over four innings as the Valley Cubs (13-10) rolled at home. She also went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Leadoff hitter Jill Cockrell went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and three RBIs, and Clancy Bright was 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Allyssa Hunt was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Christian Hess and Charlee Parris each had two hits and an RBI. Brenlee Sparks and Baylee Elston drove in a run apiece.

WEAVER 14, SAKS 4: McKennah Homesley hit a grand slam and a single and scored two runs to lead Weaver (5-2, 1-1 area).

Kynlee Fulmer had a triple and single and scored three runs. She also got the win, striking out 10 batters.

Kinlee Marvasty went 4-for-4 with two doubles, and leadoff hitter Sydney Bitzer had three hits and three runs.

Payton Marvasty had two hits, including a double, and two runs, and Madison Atchley had a double among her two hits and a run.

For Saks, Miani Burton had a double and single and scored a run, and Mikaylah Wilson hit a triple and scored a run. Camarie Denham had two singles and a run, and Ashlynn Twymon hit a double.
