Garcia scored two goals as Saks girls roll past Cleburne County in soccer; White Plains, Piedmont and Ohatchee score victories in softball

SAKS — Eighth-grader Layla Garcia scored two goals, and Saks’ girls beat Cleburne County 5-0 in high school soccer action.

Senior Daniela Escandon, sophomore Loany Martinez and sophomore Alonna Crews each scored a goal.

Senior keeper Abby Ramirez recorded her fourth shutout.

Saks will play host to Weaver on Tuesday.

Softball

WHITE PLAINS 19, ANNISTON 1: Callie Richardson went 4-for-4 with a home run, triple, two doubles and five RBIs to lead the offensive charge for White Plains.

She also pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts. Of her 45 total pitches, 41 were strikes.

Cassidy Arnold, Addison Bradley and Hallie Williams each hit a double, and Arnold drove in two runs. Williams went 2-for-4 with three runs, and Bradley went 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBIs.

Cooper Martin also drove in a run.

PIEDMONT 8, WEAVER 0: Fresh off of its championship in the White Plains Lady Wildcat Classic, Piedmont got a three-hit shutout from Savannah Smith. She struck out 11 batters and walked one.

Smith also went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI.

Jenna Calvert went 2-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs, and Sarah Goss went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBIs. Cacey Brothers, Abby Baird and Jaycee Glover each drove in a run.

Jayden Smith, Kynlee Fulmer and Anna Shirvinski each had a hit for Weaver.

OHATCHEE 11, JACKSONVILLE 1: Hannah Fitch pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts. She also went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Tabi Davidson went 1-for-3 with one run and two RBIs. Whitney McFry went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, and Ellie Carden doubled and scored two runs.

The Indians also got a hit and two RBIs from Skylar Haynes. Alyssa Davis drove in a run. 

SOUTHSIDE 5, OXFORD 4: Oxford outhit Southside 11-5 but committed three errors, and Southside won with a walk-off run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Southside’s Rylann Shaw went 2-for-3 with a double, run and four RBIs. Peyton Burrell went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Oxford’s Emma Tims-Bacerra hit a solo home run, and Kaeyn Crossley went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Justice Woods also drove in a run.

Berkley Mooney pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and four earned runs with two walks and five strikeouts. Crossley pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowing two walks and one unearned run.

Oxford (9-2) will play at Clay-Chalkville on Tuesday.

Baseball

SARDIS 13, PIEDMONT 5: Jack Hayes hit two doubles and drove in a run for Piedmont, and Max Hanson went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

McClane Mohon went 2-for-4 with a double, run and RBI. Cole Wilson doubled and drove in a run, and Jake Austin had an RBI.
