Lady Indians sweep through Champions Play Here Tournament for first tourney win of the season, includes other tournament action

The Ohatchee volleyball team swept through five opponents without losing a set to win the Champions Play Here Tournament for its first tournament win of the season.

The Lady Indians beat Westbrook Christian in the finals, 25-15, 25-12. They also beat Munford, Weaver, Piedmont and Cleburne County on the way.

Jorda Crook led the Lady Indians with 63 kills, 11 blocks and 11 aces.

Westbrook Christian beat White Plains (25-9, 25-17), Faith Christian (25-15, 25-10), Wellborn (29-27, 25-15) and Oxford (25-23, 27-25) on its way to the championship match.

Piedmont (7-5) went 4-2 in the tournament. The Lady Bulldogs beat Weaver twice, Wellborn and Munford, and fell to Cleburne County and Ohatchee. Ta’Leaha Ridley passed 550 career kills in the tournament (582) and Jaycee Glover passed 1,500 career assists (1,538).

Oxford went 2-2 in the tournament. The Lady Jackets beat Faith Christian (25-15, 25-21) and White Plains (25-21, 25-20) and fell to Wellborn (27-25, 21-25, 15-12) and Westbrook Christian.

Ft. Payne Tournament

FORT PAYNE – Lily Henry had a big day with 53 kills, 11 aces and six blocks and Pleasant Valley took a pair of three-set victories in the playoffs, to win the Silver Bracket title of the Fort Payne Tournament.

The Lady Raiders (15-5) beat Donoho ifor the win, 25-23, 22-25, 15-9 . They also beat Springville in the semifinals 25-21, 21-25, 15-11.

In pool play, they beat Lincoln and Gaylesville and lost to Plainview.

Donoho, meanwhile, beat Boaz (25-13, 25-22) and Jacksonville (25-17, 25-17) in the Silver Bracket before falling to PV. The Lady Falcons (17-6) went 2-1 in pool play with wins over Cherokee County (25-16, 25-18) and Fyffe (25-19, 25-15) and an opening loss to Susan Moore (25-19, 25-17).

Hartselle Tournament

HARTSELLE – Alexandria went 3-3 on the day and beat Priceville in straight sets to win the Silver Bracket of the Hartselle Tournament.

It was the last set of matches the Lady Cubs played with coach Whitney Welch on the bench. Welch is about to miss the next two weeks after having a baby Monday.The Lady Cubs lost to Guntersville (2-0), DAR (2-0) and Westminster Christian (2-1) in pool play, but swept three matches to win the Silver Bracket. They beat Madison Academy (25-20, 23-25, 15-11); Geraldine (25-19, 31-29) and, in the finals, Priceville (25-15, 25-23).

Kailey Dickerson had 13 kills in the bracket final and Eryn Spradley had 11. Christian Hess had 20 assists and 10 digs. The Lady Cubs’ stats for the entire tournament is listed below.
