Piedmont quarterback Jack Hayes is closing in on a milestone only five quarterbacks in the state of Alabama are recognized for achieving.

The junior is only two shy of 100 career touchdown passes and on his present pace should blow away the listed state record by the time he graduates.

Jeremy Yates of Colbert Heights is currently fifth on the AHSAA’s all-time list for career touchdown passes (103). The all-time leader is Chris Smelley of American Christian, who threw 134 from 2002 through 2005.

In four seasons of varsity play, Hayes has accounted for 128 total touchdowns, which is currently 10th on the AHSAA all-time list. He has 6,251 career passing yards and 8,132 total yards.

Through seven games this season he has passed for 1,167 yards and 15 touchdowns, and rushed for 420 yards and nine scores.

The Bulldogs (6-1) visit Hokes Bluff Friday night.
