ACC Invitational pairings, Cider Ridge commits to dates, Dyar wraps up Pinehurst experience

By East Alabama Sports Today

This was the week the Sunny King Charity Classic was supposed to be play. The week Jacob LeCroy was supposed to defend his record-setting title with a new partner, Gary Wigington was supposed to chase a ninth SKCC title with Ty Cole by his side and another $100,000 check was expected to pass to the tournament charities.

That was before the coronavirus pandemic. The crisis forced the SKCC to cancel for the first time in its history and five County Tour events to either cancel or reschedule.

The Wilfred Galbraith Anniston Country Club Invitational was one of the tournaments impacted, but the event got a new life when tournament officials, hoping the pandemic had loosened its grip by then, slid into the dates previously occupied by the Sunny King. Of course, there will be coronavirus protocols in place for the field, most notably single-rider carts and two waves of tee times, but the first major of the season is a go.

Here are the pairings for Friday’s championship flight qualifying:

Cider Ridge back on schedule

The Calhoun County Golf Tour regained one of the tournaments it figured to lose to the COVID-19 pandemic when Cider Ridge committed to rescheduling the Oxford City Championship for Aug. 8-9.

The event was the third on the County Tour schedule to be claimed by the coronavirus and the first to be rescheduled. The County Two-Man at Silver Lakes and the Cane Creek Invitational were the first two to be scratched.

Additionally, the annual Buddy Moore Tournament at Anniston Municipal is scheduled for Sept. 12-13. Details on both tournaments to come.

With the return of Cider Ridge, the County Tour schedule looks like this:

Dyar wraps up at Pinehurst

PINEHURST, N.C. – Anniston’s Hanna Dyar wrapped up her experience in the North & South Junior Girls Championship Wednesday with a second straight 80 on Pinehurst No. 6. She shot 246 for the tournament.

Starting on the back nine, the White Plains grad got off to a fast start. She birdied two of her first three holes – holes she bogeyed and parred the day before. She turned in 3-over-par and was 4-over for the day through 14 holes after a series of four straight pars.

Amanda Sambach of Davidson, N.C., won the tournament at 5-under 211 after a final-round 68.
