Alexandria played its last set of Calhoun County teams before taking the No. 1 seed into the county tournament this weekend and swept 1A Faith Christian and Donoho.
The Lady Cubs (34-7) beat No. 9 county seed Faith 25-13, 25-12, and No. 3 county seed Donoho 25-16, 25-17. They are 12-0 against county teams this season, including wins over the 2, 3, 4, 7, 8 and 9 seeds in the county tournament (they have not played No. 5 or 6).
“We’re just trying to get better and work through some things we’ve got going on,” Alexandria coach Whitney Welch said. “We’ve just got to keep it up. It’s always a good tournament and everybody’s getting better.”
Pleasant Valley 3, Glencoe 0: Mattie Glass had 14 kills and six aces to lead the Lady Raiders.
White Plains 3, Hokes Bluff 1: Gracie Morgan had 21 kills to lead the Lady Wildcats. White Plains hosts Cherokee County Thursday to determine the third and fourth seed for the Class 4A Area 10 tournament. The winner plays Hokes Bluff and the loser plays top seed host Jacksonville for a spot in the regionals in Huntsville.
