Alexandria took another step towards nailing down a possible No. 1 seed in the Calhoun County Tournament when it edged Jacksonville 2-1 to remain undefeated against county competition as part of a two-match sweep Tuesday night.
 
The Lady Cubs defeated Jacksonville 25-14, 10-25, 15-9, and also beat Cleburne County 2-0 (25-17, 25-9).
 
Jordan Beason had 13 kills and seven digs in the win over Jacksonville. Anna Johnson had 19 assists and six digs. Sarah Pelham had nine digs, Kandyn Blaenship six digs and Madison Wallace three aces.
 
Beason had five kills against Cleburne County and Johnson had 12 assists.
 
Oxford opened its area schedule with a 3-0 win over Fort Payne (25-17, 25-14, 25-17).
 
Tanyia McDonald had eight kills, while Lakijah Brown and Kiersten Woods had seven each. The Lady Jackets did a good job keeping points alive in the match: Aametria Wilson had nine digs, Brittany Davis and Shania Vincent seven each, Brittany Davis seven, McDonald six and Arianna Curry five. Cadie Burn dished 16 assists.
 
Weaver won its area opener over Piedmont 3-1 for its fifth victory in six matches. The Bearcats clinched the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth set.

Donoho spread the wealth in sweeping a pair of matches against Wellborn (25-8, 25-14) and White Plains (25-20, 25-19). Lily Grace Draper had seven kills and five aces in the White Plains match, nine kills in the Wellborn match. Maggie Miller had 17 assists against  White Plains, nine assists and three aces against Wellborn.
