Alexandria wins opener behind Dreyer, weathee playing havoc with schedule; Faith Christian ousted by two one-run games; Pleasant Valley advances, White Plains playing for a spot at state

TUSCALOOSA –
Lanie Dreyer pitched her first perfect game and hit her first grand slam as the Lady Cubs routed Parker 16-0 in their Class 5A West Central Regional opener in three innings.

Dreyer threw 28 pitches to the nine batters she faced and struck out eight. She hit the grand slam in a 13-run first inning and drove in seven runs in the game.

Maggie Phillips hit a two-run homer in the first inning and went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. The Lady Cubs were scheduled to play Hayden next.

Bad weather played havoc with the entire schedule and the Lady Cubs’ second game against Hayden was pushed to Saturday morning.

East Central Regional: Faith Christian suffered two heartbreaking one-run losses Friday and were eliminated in the Class 1A East Central Regional.
 
The Lady Lions lost to Berry in the winner’s bracket 4-3 at Oxford Lake Park and were eliminated by Talladega County Central 8-7.
 
The first game was tied 3-3 when Berry scored a run in the bottom of the sixth. Iana Fields led off with a pop single and was replaced on the bases by Bailey Thomas’ fielder’s choice. Thomas stole second and then scored on Brooke Blanton’s single to right. The Lady Lions got the tying runner on with two outs, but couldn’t bring it home.
 
The second game ended when on a double play when the Gabby Price was out at third failing to tag up on Elizabeth Bedford’s fly to center.
 
Faith took a 7-5 lead with four runs in the sixth on Anna Kerri’s RBI single, Ariane Price’s game-tying double and Erin McVeigh’s go-ahead RBI ground out and Paityn Boyd’s line single. But TCC retook the lead with three in the bottom of the inning.
 
Madi Snow and Jordan Campbell homered in the game for Faith.
  
Athens 16, Oxford 3: The Lady Jackets stayed alive with a 10-3 win over Muscle Shoals, but were eliminated in the Class 6A North Regional when Athens erupted for 10 runs in the second inning highlighted  by Anna Corder’s grand slam. Sarah Howell homered and doubled for Oxford in the game.
