Medalist Thompson leads Providence Christian to title in Spain Park Invitational, White Plains’ Dyar T-9

HOOVER – First-round leader Lauren Thompson followed her opening-round 72 with a 2-over-par 74 Thursday to win low medalist and lead Providence Christian to the Spain Park Invitational title.
 
Thompson’s 146 total was two shots ahead of Mill Creek’s Tess Davenport and three ahead of Auburn’s Elisabeth Preus. Thompson birdied two of her last three holes on the back nine of Greystone’s Legacy Course.
 
Michaela Morard of Randolph and Spain Park’s Marilyn Steed completed the all-tournament team.
 
White Plains’ Hanna Dyar birdied three straight holes on the back nine (16, 17, 18) and shot 79 to finish tied for ninth at 156.
 
Providence Christian shot a final round 237 as a team to finished at 468, winning by 12 over runner-up Randolph.
 
White Plains improved its total by eight shots over the opening round (258) and finished 11thin the team race. The Lady Wildcats also countedan 89 from Abby Gattis and a 90 from Baylie Webb. Gattis’ score was a 15-shot improvement over the opening round.
 
Glencoe’s Lauren Cole shot 87 Thursday and finished 27that 170.
