Lady Raiders earn spot in state tournament by routing Carbon Hill in 3A North Central regionals, join Alexandria in Montgomery

TUSCALOOSA – Pleasant Valley punched its ticket to the state softball tournament Saturday with an 11-1 pasting of Carbon Hill in the finals of the Class 3A North Central Region elimination bracket.

The Lady Raiders (36-16) will join Alexandria as the teams from Calhoun County headed to Montgomery. They play Plainview at 10:45 a.m. Thursday in their state opener.

Mac Parris went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the game, while Savannah Williams drove in four runs and Julianna Ballew plated two. Lindsey Pritchett and Rylee Haynes both had two hits and scored three runs.

Leah Patterson allowed five hits in the five-inning game and struck out four.

The Lady Raiders scored a run in the first inning, then took control with four in the second.

They fell into the elimination bracket with a 4-0 loss to Locust Fork in the winner’s bracket final. It was the only game in the regional they had less than 12 hits; they were held to two hits and were struck out 16 times.

The Lady Raiders hit .377 in the regional. Savannah Williams was 7-for-11 with six RBIs, Cortney Williams was 6-for-12 with six RBIs, Ballew was 7-for-14 and Parris had five RBIs.

Carbon Hill reached the elimination bracket final by beating Wellborn (9-4), which beat Ohatchee (9-8).

Alexandria earned its spot in the state tournament by grabbing the second spot from the Class 5A North Region in Huntsville. The Lady Cubs will play Springville in their state opener Wednesday at 10:45.

White Plains, the last potential Calhoun County team that could have reached the state tournament, fell to area rival Cherokee County 7-1 in their Class 4A North Central elimination bracket final.

The Lady Wildcats scored a run in the top of the first on Presley Whitten’s RBI double, but Cherokee County took the lead on Emily Williams’ two-run single in the bottom of the inning and extended it with four in the second. Jensen Alexander had the big hit in the second, a three-run homer.

Cherokee County plays Wilson in its state opener 9 a.m. Thursday.
