Rolfe gives Alexandria a shot to play for a spot in Montgomery, Oxford ousted in heartbreaker, Lincoln eliminates Cleburne County

HUNTSVILLE – Emmah Rolfe pitched a three-inning perfect game with seven strikeouts in the opener and then hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning of the second game to help Alexandria reach the winner’s bracket final of the Class 5A North softball regional.

The Lady Cubs beat Lee-Huntsville 15-0 behind Rolfe’s gem and Russellville 8-1. They play Ardmore Friday at 10:30 a.m. with the winner punching a ticket to the state tournament in Montgomery.

Alexandria broke open a 1-0 game against Russellville with seven runs in its last two at bats. Maggie Phillips gave the Lady Cubs the lead with a first-inning homer and then pitched 4-1/3 innings of shutout ball with eight strikeouts.

Rolfe had two hits and three RBIs in the Lee game, Leighton Sparks drove in three runs and Millie Burt, Lanie Dreyer and Alyssa Carrizales had two hits apiece.

In the 6A North regional, Hazel Green answered Emily Thrasher’s go-ahead RBI double in the top of the sixth with two in the bottom of the inning, then held on to eliminate the Lady Jackets 8-7.

Oxford scored four in the first and led 6-3 after four before Hazel Green tied it with three in the fifth. Emmali Meads and Sarah Howell both homered for the Lady Jackets in the game.

The Lady Jackets were blanked on four hits by Austin in their opener 5-0, then shut out Fort Payne 10-0 behind Emily Thrasher’s two-hitter. Emmali Meads went 3-for-3 with a homer in the Fort Payne game.

In Tuscaloosa, in some payback for their area championship series, Lincoln rallied for 10 runs in its final two at-bats to eliminate Cleburne County 11-6 in the Class 5A North Central regional.

Cleburne County beat West Point 7-6, breaking a 6-6 tie on Madison Higgins’ bases-loaded walk in the fifth. The Lady Tigers then fell to Mortimer Jordan 12-0 on a one-hitter; Mortimer Jordan scored nine in the second inning.

Lincoln lost to Hayden 1-0 in its tournament opener, then routed Wenonah 10-0.
