PV’s Miller wins second state title, among three Calhoun County champions crowed in 1A-3A meet in Cullman; Piedmont, Weaver finish 3-4 among 3A boys teams

Three Calhoun County boys brought home state titles and four sets of athletes were silver medalists during the final day of the Class 1A-3A Track & Field Championships at Cullman High School.

Pleasant Valley’s Matisse Miller claimed his second title of the championships when he won the 3A boys 800 in a time of 1:59.60. He won the 1600 on Friday.

Piedmont’s Cardavion Myers won the 3A boys 100 in 11.31 and Weaver’s Robert Gaines won the 3A boys 110 hurdles in 15.18.

Class 3A runner-ups were Piedmont’s Darrian Bossey (200, 22.60); Weaver’s boys 4×100 relay (44.08), Wellborn’s girls 4×100 relay (52.64) and Ohatchee’s Marli Hanks (discus, 100-4).

Piedmont and Weaver finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Class 3A boys team standings; Ohatchee was 23rd. In the girls standings, Pleasant Valley was fifth, Ohatchee eighth, Piedmont 13th, Wellborn 16th and Weaver 23rd.

In Class 1A, Donoho’s girls finished 23rd with three points and its boys were 22nd with nine points.

In the Class 4A-7A Championships in Gulf Shores, White Plains’ girls finished 11th in the Class 4A team standings, while Anniston was T-13 and Saks 25th; on the boys side, Anniston was 14th, White Plains T-23, Saks 29th and Jacksonville T-38.

Alexandria’s girls were 11th in Class 5A; Oxford’s boys finished fifth in Class 6A, the girls 14th.
