BASEBALL GAMES

White Plains 12, Donoho 1: Andrew Norred continued to wield a hot bat at the end of the season, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Andrew Cronan went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and Jake Spivey ripped a pair of doubles. The top of the Wildcats’ lineup was a combined 8-for-10 with eight runs and five RBIs.

Saks 9, Wellborn 4: Winning pitcher Harley Burgess went 3-for-4 and Jaylen Childs went 2-for-4 with three RBIs for the Wildcats.

Hokes Bluff 6, Piedmont 1: The Eagles broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth inning and seven Hokes Bluff pitchers – one an inning – held the Bulldogs to three hits and an unearned run. Carson Eubanks, not one of the pitchers, went 3-for-4, while Houston Edwards and Dylan Teague – both of whom did pitch – delivered a pair of hits. Silas Thompson scored Piedmont’s run on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

Ragland 8, Leeds 2: Logan Buckner gave up two unearned runs in 5 2/3 innings and got a lot of support from his hitters. Noah Hollingsworth homered, Jalen Byers had three RBIs and Colby Fuller drove in a pair of runs.

Cherokee County 14, Cedar Bluff 1: The Warriors pulled away from a 3-0 lead with 11 runs in the sixth inning. They sent 16 batters to the plate in the inning, collecting eight hits, including consecutive run-scoring doubles by Carson Garrett (three-run), Jy Lockridge and Ethan Johnson. Garrett went 3-for-5 with four sixth-inning RBIs, while Johnson had two doubles and two RBIs and Blake Dobbs went 2-for-2.

Weaver 8, Pleasant Valley 1: Austin Bryant drove in four runs with a two-run double in a five-run third and two-run single in the sixth. Three Weaver pitchers held the playoff-bound Raiders to four singles. Dalton Hamby went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks for the Bearcats.

SOFTBALL GAMES

Ohatchee 7, Wellborn 6: The Lady Indians won their regular-season area championship with the victory.

White Plains 17, Hokes Bluff 5: The Lady Wildcats fell behind 2-0, tied the game 2-2 and then erupted for 11 runs in the third inning. They sent 15 batters to the plate in the big inning with Jordan Hinton and Sami Kirby each delivering two-run singles. Hinton went 3-for-3, while Isabella Pinto and Presley Whitten had two hits apiece.

Oxford 11, Cleburne County 2: Sarah Howell and Emily Thrasher both hit solo homers and the Lady Jackets collected 14 hits as a team to overrun Cleburne County. Howell homered in the fourth to give Oxford a 5-1 lead and Thrasher homered in the fifth to make it 6-2. Howell and Crestavia Curry both went 3-for-4, while Thrasher and Ametria Wilson both went 2-for-3.

Springville 3, Alexandria 2: The Lady Tigers scored twice in the first inning, opened a 3-1 lead in the third and Abby Swaney protected it with a complete-game one-hitter and 15 strikeouts. Mattie Wade had Alexandria’s only hit, a sixth-inning leadoff triple. Wade scored on a passed ball to make it 3-2 and the Lady Cubs had the tying run at second, but Swaney got out of the inning with a strikeout and struck out the side in the seventh.
