Defending champion Oxford leads 6A South; Moody, Cleburne County waging battle in 1A-5A South

MONTGOMERY – Oxford has a nice lead in Class 6A, while Moody and Cleburne County are waging a battle in 1A-5A after Friday’s first day of the South Super Sectional Wrestling Championship.

The defending state champion Yellow Jackets have 195.5 points going into today’s final day. They hold a 26-point lead over Benjamin Russell.

The Yellow Jackets have placed seven wrestlers into the finals – Chase Hicks (113), Jakob Chisolm (126), Wesley Slick (132), Reed Hill (138), Matt King (152), Matthew Muncher (195) and Clay Webb (285).

Only a half-point separate leader Moody (164.5) and Cleburne County (164) in 1A-5A. Alexandria is third with 151.5 points.

Alexandria and Moody each have five wrestlers into the finals. Cleburne County has four. Weaver has two and Saks has one.

In the Class 1A-5A North Super Section in Birmingham, Piedmont is currently 16th with 32 points. Startups White Plains and Pleasant Valley are 21st (21) and 26th (10), respectively.
