CLASS 4A AREA 12 GIRLS

Jacksonville 53, Cherokee County 49: Kayla Broom played well in the fourth quarter with four fouls and Essence Hutchinson made a couple big free throws down the stretch to send the Lady Golden Eagles into the championship game against Hokes Bluff.

Broom led Jacksonville with 14 points, hitting seven of 10 from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds. She also had four assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Hutchinson went 4-for-6 from the line and finished with nine points.

“Kayla played well,” Jacksonville coach Tres Buzan said. “The four fouls were tough, but she stepped up and scored the ball a little bit and definitely did a great job rebounding. She had some really big put-backs in the game.”

Hokes Bluff 56, White Plains 29: Amanda Noah hit five of Hokes Bluff’s 11 3-pointers and scored 22 points to lead the Lady Eagles. Landry Bussey led White Plains with 10 points, matching her season-high in her final game.

Alexandria 49, Etowah 32: Brie Bradford scored 10 of her game-high 22 and the Lady Cubs hit three of their four 3-pointers in the second half to pull away. The Lady Cubs will play Boaz, a come-from-behind 43-36 winner over Douglas, in the tournament title game.

Glencoe 61, Pleasant Valley 57: Jakeb Amberson hit two free throws with 5.8 seconds left to seal it after Pleasant Valley cut a 10-point deficit to two and missed two shots to tie. Caden Turner led PV with 22 points, while Ethan Johnson had 16. The Yellow Jackets will play host Piedmont for the tournament title Friday. It will be Piedmont coach Tommy Lewis’ first bid for career victory No. 600.

CLASS 5A AREA 10 BOYS

Talladega 85, Lincoln 60: Fred Dickerson had 18 points, 15 assists and six steals and Kobe Simmons came within one rebound of a double-double as the Tigers roared into the tournament title game.

Five Talladega players scored in double figures. In addition to Dickerson, Simmons had 19 points and nine rebounds. J.Q. Wilson had 18 points and seven boards, while Rontavious Barclay added 14 points and Chaztin Tanner 10. Earl Wells led three Lincoln scorers in double figures with 18 points.

The Tigers will play top-seeded host Clay Central in the title game Thursday at 7 p.m.

Clay Central 71, Cleburne County 32: The Volunteers jumped out to a 19-2 lead and never looked back. Quen McKinney scored 14 points and Jamal Williamson had 13, but the Vols got contributions throughout the lineup.
